Chapter 8

Percy

The next morning, I got up bright and early for the camp’s meeting. We all squished into the Big House and there was a huge TV screen there. Chaos was there too. “I would like to show you what Percy Jackson has been through, and why he ran away.” He told us and the black screen turned on. It showed everything that Mark did and that he blamed me. Zoe squeezed my hand, reminding me that she was there for me. They all saw the despair on my face as I was watching Mark and Annabeth kiss on the beach with the gods watching them. Everyone looked down in shame for what they have done. Annabeth was crying.

“Good,” I thought. “At least they are ashamed of themselves.” Then, the film changed and it showed me joining Chaos’ army. After that film, it showed a memory that I have forgotten. It made me smile. It was of Chaos making me his son.

It was a good memory. I was so happy at the time. I had gotten a father again. Poseidon was glaring at Chaos right now and finally, he burst with rage.

“You took me son away from me!” Poseidon accused after seeing the little scene of Chaos making me his son. “Where is he now? What did you do to him? If you hurt him, I will find a way to kill you.”

“I did not kill him, Poseidon. You abandoned Percy. The fault is yours.”My father replied smoothly. Poseidon looked down at the floor. The screen kept on playing videos of what I have done and it showed how powerful I was. Finally, the screen showed a false recording. It showed that I had died a death with a spear in my chest. After the presentation of my strength and ‘death’ was done, my cheeks were a faint pink and I was looking down at the ground. I was glad that I had my mask and my cloak on. Everyone stared at the floor in shame except Mark. Poseidon looked confused since he knew that I was the commander.

“I bet that I could do all of that too but not die of some silly spear.” He boasted. “I should be in your army. Your army only recruits the best, right?” He asked Chaos. “Well, I am the most powerful demigod and the best fighter in the world. I should be able to join.” He bragged.

“People that only sprout hot air out of their mouths don’t have to skill to join my army. Also, I have to invite you. You cannot just offer to join. I have to ask you and I would never approve of you joining my army.” My father left Mark at a loss for words.

“My father is just awesome.” I thought. My father, Chaos, turned to me as if he could hear my thoughts. His eyes twinkled and he winked at me. I smiled at him.

“Now, let’s talk about the war. I know that all the female titans are not fighting. They leave that to their husbands. However, Gaea is awakening the worst monsters from the pit of the Tartarus. They will attack this camp first and then, they will go to Olympus.” Chaos said.

“It seems that you know a lot about the enemy’s plans, Chaos.” Zeus spoke in an accusing voice as if Chaos was working with Gaea. “Why is that?” He asked.

“It is pretty easy to spy on them when you are invisible.” He answered smoothly. “Get this in your head! We are here to help you, not to over throw you!” Chaos said in a frustrated tone.

“Hey!” a camper had just yelled through the silence. “Look what I found!” In his hand, he held a letter. I remembered it as the one that I had placed on the ping pong table before I had left camp 300 years ago. The camper handed the note to Apollo.

“From Percy. To Camp Half-Blood.” He read and he quickly tore the note open and began reading.

Dear Campers,

It’s Percy. I would just like to tell you that I am leaving and I would like to say good bye. We will probably never see each other again and I wanted to tell you that all of you guys have been great friends and an even better family. I don’t blame you for accusing me. I understand that you guys don’t need me anymore and that new things come to replace the old things. I would like to say a few special good byes.

Dear Chiron,

You have been a wonderful teacher, greater than I could ever hope for. Thank you so much for teaching me. It has been an honor being taught by you. I am also sorry for all the stray arrows that I have shot. Chiron had tears in his eyes.

Dear Nico,

Hey Death Breath. Thank you for being like my own little brother. I hope that you know that I actually learned how to hide in the shadows successfully because of you and I have payed attention to your lessons. I also want you to know that I didn’t steal your sword. Thanks for being such a good friend Emo Boy. Nico had a sad and depressed look on his face.

Dear Pinecone face,

You have saved my life countless times and I am sorry that I couldn’t pay you back.

“You have Kelp Head.” Thalia muttered.

You have been a great cousin even though you like to zap me with lightning. I want you to know that you won’t be forgotten and that you will always be a friend. I want you to know that I did not take you’re your bow and arrow. Thank you for all those years of fun and fights.

Dear Goat Boy,

You have been my friend from the very beginning and an awesome protector. Sadly, I never got to ask you what tin cans taste like and I hope that you know that I didn’t insult Pan. Have fun being the Lord of the Wild, Goat Boy and know that you will always be my friend and protector. Grover started to chew on the corner of the coach that he was sitting on while crying.

Dear Tyson,

You have been the best little brother a big brother could ever ask for. I will always remember you for your kindness and your skill with tools. Thank you for being my brother and I hope that you will have fun building amazing and wonderful things. Tyson had suddenly started a waterfall of tears.

Finally, this last one is for Annabeth.

Dear Annabeth,

I hope that you know that I don’t hate you entirely. I will remember all the quest we have been on and all the happy memories that we had together; getting the Master Bolt, saving Grover from the Cyclops, fighting Atlas, navigating the Labyrinth, and lastly, fighting by your side in the Titan war. I just wanted to say good bye. I hope that you know that I won’t forget you. I am sorry that I wasn’t good enough for you. Annabeth was sobbing in the corner, unable to say anything but I could tell that she wanted to speak. She just couldn’t fight the tears though.

Bye Guys,

Percy or Kelp Head or Seaweed Brain (Which ever you prefer)

P.S. Please don’t go looking for me.

Apollo finished the note. Everyone looked sad and depressed. They couldn’t believe that they had believed Mark. Mark had suddenly disappeared. I was shocked that my friends had cared for me so much. Suddenly, the conch horn sounded and I immediately stood up. I marched up the door. At the top of Half-Blood hill, an army of millions of monsters waited for us and Hyperion and Atlas were leading them.
