reminder they're all 12 years old here

A young handsome boy, age 17, walked down the narrow hallway with furniture and paintings occupying the space. His footsteps echoed down the hall as he walked toward the end where at a short distance he spotted the door with a variety of flower stickers randomly placed on the once white pristine door. As he finally reached the door, he looked out the window placed near and looked at a few people walking down the sidewalk before they all headed home for the evening. The young boy took his right hand out of his pants pocket and hesitated to knock on the door until he heard a confirmation for him to come in, "who is it?" he slipped his hand into his pocket before replying. He rolled his neck left and right and heard a 'come in.'

Right when he opened the door he was hit with an aroma of floral scents, he looked to his right and saw his younger sister swaying side to side at her desk, earbuds on as she excitedly wrote something down in a light blue journal. His eyes swept through the room, the whole space screamed teen girl right out loud. The off-white walls peeked behind from many posters of films plastered on the walls, gold picture frames showcasing many pictures of her family and friends, and fairy lights above the twin bed. He reached out to the light switch before flipping it up and down, turning the overhead lights on and off. The young girl dropped her pen on the book before taking her earbuds off and turning around to see who was at the door.

"Hey," she paused her music and closed her notebook. Her brother walked towards her bed before sitting down on top of her white comforter, "Just came here to tell you that dad wants you to deliver some leftover food to Haru's house." he played with one of her many bears on the bed before setting it down and standing up to head out of the room. Mai nodded at her dad's request and grabbed her wallet, "Is it okay if I stop by the library before I head back home?" Her brother turned back around before returning downstairs to the living room, "Sure, I'll tell dad." She grinned at the approval and skipped out of her room trailing behind her brother. She heard the TV playing in the living room and peeked in to see her brother already lying out on the couch, realizing her father was in the kitchen cleaning up after dinner. She reached out for her pink coat, house keys, and the food she needed to deliver to her childhood friend's house. As she stepped out of the two-story family house, a cast of a warm orange hue shined on the house from the sunrise. Mai strolled up the small hill and immediately noticed Haru's house, their houses were only separated by three buildings. She increased her pace up to the house's front door, raised her hand, and knocked on the wooden door. The young girl tucked her light brown hair behind her ears and right when she finished, the door opened revealing a young boy with tousled jet-black hair and his piercing ocean blue eyes meeting her light brown eyes that looked yellow when the light hit her face.

"Hi Haru! Just wanted to drop off some leftover food for you guys," Mai delicately placed the containers of food in his hands as he gave her a small smile to her, "thanks Mai," The young girl played with her house keys and before she walked away, she faced Haru again, "Haru, are you ready for school tomorrow? What if it goes terribly wrong that I can never ever show my face again!" She buried her face into her cupped hands, but as she wallowed in her never-ending imaginary nightmare, she heard a small chuckle from the boy in front of her. She slowly lifted her face to find Haru chuckling at her antic, "it's not funny Haru. Anyways, I'm gonna go now, Mako and I will see you tomorrow for the first day of school." He gave her a small smile and wave before heading back inside his house.

Mai let out a small sigh and instead of going home right after, she went to the library as planned. The streets of their street block were almost empty with some chatter from other people's homes, she also noticed a nice elderly couple relaxing on their porch as they looked off to the sunset. The sight of the library made her smile that her cheeks hurt so much and immediately started running up to the building, slowing down when she approached the glass doors. As soon as she stepped in, a cool breeze of air hit her figure, thankfully she wore a jacket. Mai instantly headed to the romance book section, passing by many adults who were either in different sections or at the computers. As she turned to the romance aisle, her eyes swept through many romance books on the shelves, her eyes then landed on many works by Jane Austen. The young girl instantly reached out for the small copy of Persuasion. She quickly flipped through the pages before heading out of the romance section and heading towards the sign-out desk. But as soon she made her way towards the kind lady furiously typing on the reception laptop, a young boy who was just a bit taller than Mai walked by swiftly. Mai luckily did not bump into him but the stranger somehow sensed her presence, he turned his head to her and gave a quick glance before he walked out of the library.

Mai stared at the young boy's figure walk away from the building through the glass doors and recalled his amber eyes shining on her face and his ruffled dark teal hair. Suddenly everything seemed much more colourful and brighter.
