"So," Brianna waggled her eyebrows, "how did you and Derek become a thing? I didn't even know that you knew each other."
"Oh." Amelia took a sip of her lemonade. "Well, I actually... passed out one night."
Brianna's eyebrows shot up.
Before she could say anything, Amelia added, "Someone took me to his office for some reason instead of the infirmary. He ended up driving me home."
"Awww," Brianna fake swooned. "That's adorable! So, did you guys make plans to meet after that?"
"Actually, no," Amelia admitted. "I was in a tight spot financially and ended up cancelling my membership, as you probably know. I never planned on seeing any of you again." She frowned. "I probably wouldn't have either, but a few days later, Derek just busted through my door. Literally," she said, eyes wide as she recalled his entrance.
Brianna sucked on her drink, enthralled by the story.
"He broke my lock," Amelia laughed. "Accidentally, granted, but still. He, um, he wasn't too happy with the lack of security in the building."
"Oh shit," Brianna sympathized. "Yeah, they're not too fond of the idea of risk when it comes to their subs. Still, you guys weren't together, right? So, it really wasn't his place to say anything."
Amelia shook her head and gulped the rest of her drink. "Tell that to my ass. He was really not happy."
"He punished you, then and there?" Brianna's mouth dropped open.
Amelia shifted unconsciously on her stool, backside aching just from the memory. "In all fairness, I practically begged him for it." Her cheeks reddened. "After trying to escape through the window of course."
Brianna laughed. "Girl, how could no one know about all this? It's like a daytime soap opera."
Amelia shrugged. "I'm a bit of a loner. Besides, even the next morning, neither of us really discussed a relationship—"
"The next morning?!" Brianna leaned forward. "He stayed overnight?"
"Oh," she grimaced, "yeah, but nothing happened. We just fell asleep."
Brianna made a sound of disappointment. Then she perked up. "But obviously you've done it by now. How is he? I'll bet he's fantastic," she mused. "I love Matt, but Derek's got that great, solid build. Like a bear..."
"Actually..." Amelia hid her face behind her hair.
"No," Brianna gasped. "You haven't? But you're living together! How have you not have sex yet?"
"We've done other things!" she defended. "I don't even know," she mused, thinking. "It's not even something we've really talked about. Do you think that he doesn't want to have sex with me? I mean, I'm too skinny. And I'm short. I look like a teenage boy who hasn't gone through his growth spurt yet—"
"Okay, stop right there," Brianna said, voice firm. "There is no question of his wanting you. I about burst into flames just looking at him looking at you. Sure you're on the small side, but that just makes them feel more manly," she said, eyes rolling.
"But he's careful with you," she said. "Maybe he just wants to make sure that you feel comfortable. Not wanting to push you into anything you aren't ready for. Especially if you guys are living together. That can get complicated—fast—if sex is involved."
Amelia smiled. "You're really smart, you know that? Even if you are goofy."
Brianna's eyes widened. Then she burst out laughing. "And I thought that I had no filter! Damn girl, lay it on me, why don't you?"
