Logan and I make it to class right before the bell rings. Everyone else has already claimed a desk, so the only seats left are two right next to each other at the front of the room. When Ms. Lavia sees us in the doorway, she motions for us to come to her desk.
"What happened?" She asks, gesturing to my crutch.
"Patton sprained his ankle during lunch," Logan explains.
"Logan and two of my friends took me to the nurse," I finish.
"Do you need to leave class a few minutes early?" She asks.
Logan responds immediately. "Considering how long it took us to get here, that would be logical."
"No, it should be okay, I--" I start.
"Patton," he scolds me.
"I'm fine!" I protest.
Logan remains silent, gesturing first to my crutch, then to my splint and the ice pack in my hand.
I fold my arms across my chest and nod reluctantly. "Okay."
"Set an alarm for 3 minutes before the bell rings." Ms. Lavia looks to Logan, who nods. "When it goes off, you can leave. You don't have to tell me anything; just see to it that the alarm is silent so it doesn't disrupt class. It's good to see that you two are acquainted; it will make things easier. Logan, do you remember what I told you this morning?" Logan nods again. "And Patton, do you remember what I told you about a new student who needed to be caught up on last semester's material?"
"Yeah." I recall the conversation in my head. "You said I'd meet him during sixth bell today."
"This is him." She gestures to Logan. "Are you two okay with this?"
"Of course!" I gush. Logan simply nods, blushing lightly.
