"And the premises were once destroyed by fire during the Imjin War that happened in 1592-1598, caused by Japanese invasion. However, all of the palace buildings were later restored under the leadership of Heungseondaewongun during the reign of King Gojong at 1852-1919..." the tour-guide said while pointing at a certain direction, recalling his first description earlier.
I glanced over, seeing everyone focusing themselves to hear more of his explanation. As for Zhan, my partner, he was more occupied with his pocket camera. What amused me is that he took a picture with his right hand alone, while his other hand clutched with mine. How could he do that?
As I mindlessly set my eyes on him, there's something that catch my attention.
Wait-
Is that the same camera that I bought for him 2 years ago? I thought he kinda despised it, remembering his disappointed and disgusted look once he stared at it first. Well, I might bought him the cheapest pocket camera with average standard. But, it's the one that I could buy at that moment, considering we both lack money back then.
I bought him a mirrorless camera, the Sony A5100, for his birthday. I happened to come across his secret hobby when I accidentally saw some aesthetic photos of our neighborhood in his phone, and I thought it'd be romantic of me for buying him a camera. So I saved up with difficulty, working as a dishwasher in one of the small restaurant near our housing, only to be able to buy him that. Just to show him how supportive I am for whatever he likes to do.
But-
Turned out, it wasn't the best reaction I've ever expected from him...
And now, did my eyes lie to me?
I squinted both of my eyes to have a better look at the familiar object. Well... It is the same camera!
Whaaa-?
How-?
He was using the same camera the whole time and I barely notice it? Wow, I became an ignorant person...
I tucked his forearm to get his attention. "Z-Zhan.. Is that-" before I finished my words, a loud noise came from afar. It's like someone--no, lot of people banging drums as they walked robotically out of the palace through the giant gates.
I growled lowly. Perfect timing to ruin the moment dudes!
Zhan seems to notice the sound, so he grabbed my hand and took me with him, squishing our bodies amongst the crowd.
The tour-guide clasped his hands in excitement. "Ah, look! The ceremony is about to begin!" He exclaimed.
"During the Joseon Dynasty, the royal guards were responsible for guarding and patrolling the gates of the capital city and the royal palaces. The royal palace guards, who were known as the "Wanggung Sumunjang", had the very important duty of protecting the king by guarding the entrance gates of the primary royal palace where the king resided. They were in charge of opening and closing the palace gates, inspecting all visitors, and maintaining a close surveillance of the palace..." he once again explained which earning a lazy facial expression from me.
