3rd POV
Inside (Y/N)’s tent was Shizu, laying down on her bed with a small smile. As Shizu kept gazing at the blank ceiling she spoke softly, “(Y/N)-san… Thank you.” (Y/N) kept quiet as she heard that and silently urged her to keep going, “I nearly… killed someone I cared about again. With my own hands…” A comfortable silence enveloped the two for a while before Shizu spoke once more, “Hey, (Y/N)-san… would you mind listening?”
(Y/N) kept her gaze on her face as she replied, “Save your strength. You may speak to me when you have recovered.” Shizu smiled even bigger as she turned her head to her, “I want people to remember my story… and know that I lived.” (Y/N) stared at her for a moment before releasing a sigh, “As you wish.” In the end, Shizu told (Y/N) what happened, though her recollection was vague. She spoke of how Ifrit possessed her after she was summoned, and how she ended up killing her friend. What a poor girl. She shouldn’t have gone through that torture.
“After Pirino died,” Shizu said with a far off look, “I continued to serve the Demon Lord as his closest aid. But then I met…” When she didn’t finish her sentence, “(Y/N) gently asked, “Met who?” Shizu released a happy sigh as she closed her eyes, “The Hero.” (Y/N) rose a brow at this, ‘Hero? Could it be the same one that sealed away Veldora?’ Shizu opened her eyes as she described her first meeting with the Hero, “There was a battle… and the Demon Lord abandoned his castle, leaving me behind as the rear guard. Was it the will of the fire spirit Ifrit, or was it of my own volition? I’m still not sure.”
Not wanting to dare tear Shizu away from her intense memory, (Y/N) quietly and intently listened about their long battle against each other. Eventually, it seemed Shizu was overpowered by this Hero, “I thought I’d be killed instantly… But then she spoke to me. She asked why I was there, how I stayed alive… I was a Majin, and she believed everything I said. She told me, ‘It’s alright now.’” As she told her story, a few tears streamed down her face. (Y/N) leaned forward and brushed away her tears. “My emotions came back to me. Then the Hero took me in… She was the one who gave me that mask.”
(Y/N) glanced to the side at the cracked mask on the small table. “She said it would boost my magic resistance and help suppress Ifrit, the spirit dwelling within me.” (Y/N) noticed how Shizu slowly tried to get up and grab the mask. Firmly pressing a hand down on her chest so she didn’t move, (Y/N) grabbed the mask and handed it to her. Shizu fondly held her precious item, “By traveling with her, I learned about this world, and I learned magic. Through the power of the mask, I even learned to use Ifrit’s power, to some extent. By helping others, and fighting…”
“That is how you became the legendary Conqueror of Flames, yes?” (Y/N) said as she gently rubbed Shizu’s head. Shizu let out a content smile as she leaned into her warm hand, “I was so happy traveling with her. But… Then she disappeared, leaving me behind.” (Y/N)’s hand ceased all movement as she stared down at the saddened Shizu, “Do you hate her for leaving?” Shizu shook her head, “No, never. I don’t know why she left. Why did she? Why…? ‘I’m certain we’ll meet again.’ That’s what she said to me. I decided to become stronger. I wanted to help people who were suffering. I worked really hard. For decades! Doesn’t that sound impressive?”
(Y/N) has lived for much longer than a measly few decades and certainly achieved more than Shizu could ever hope to imagine. Though, (Y/N) wasn’t cruel. (Y/N) gave Shizu a genuine smile as she nodded, “Yes, very much so.” Shizu smiled more at her comment as she continued, “People started to call me a Champion… But I wasn’t young anymore. It was becoming more difficult for me to control Ifrit.” Shizu’s mood grew tense as she clutched the mask, “One wrong step, and I could unleash Ifrit by mistake. When I thought about that, I got scared. I knew I could hurt someone I cared about again…”
