Lola's POV
"Good morning everyone, and welcome back!" I greeted the same homeroom I have had for the past two years. When I started here I took over for a teacher who had just retired so I inherited all of her classes, including a now senior homeroom. After I took a quick attendance I went and took a seat at my desk waiting for the bell to ring.
"Ok guys let me take a quick attendance." I said, going through the list to begin learning everyones names. My first class of the day was my AP U.S. Government class that I looked forward to every year. But as I was taking attendance I noticed a lot of my students whispering to each other and looking at something on someones phone. I brushed it off and tried to begin the plans I had for today.
"Since this is a U.S. government class, we will be spending a lot of time discussing and learning about all aspects of our government. It's the first day of classes so I wasn't going to jump directly into note taking and lecturing, but I found something that might be a little bit more fun for all of us. I want us all to learn more about our political affiliations, and I have a quiz that everyone can take that will give us a general answer. And after everyone gets their results I want to do a fun project with them." I explained to the class. Pretty much the entire class was engaged in what I was saying except for a small group of girls towards the back. I brushed it off and passed out the quizzes for everyone to take before taking a seat at my desk. I began preparing for the next thing we were going to do today but I kept hearing those girls whispering in the back, and I felt like they were talking about me.
"Is everything alright back there, does anybody have a question?" I asked the class, mostly aiming at the girls.
"Oh nothing." One of them mumbled before they all began doing their work. I shrugged it off and continued doing what I was doing. After about 15 minutes I stood back up so we could move on.
"How is everyone doing?" I asked, everyone was now looking at me with complete results in their hands. "I want you guys to think about where you land on the political party spectrum based on these results and your personal opinion. The dark the blue, the further left. The darker the red, the further right. And purple is in the middle. There is also yellow for libertarian, green for the Green Party, and I believe it is orange or brown for authoritarian." I began handing out little cards to everyone so they could begin working.
"I want you guys to write your name on the card and color it in the shade of whatever color you feel represents you most. And once everyone is done I will be hanging them up above the smart board on the wall. Everyone will hand me their card and tell me where they feel they land based on what they colored the card. I'll also be including my fifth period government class as well." I said after I finished giving everyone a card. My students got to work coloring in their cards and after about 10 more minutes everyone was finished.
"Ok guys who wants to go first?" I asked, a few of them raising their hands. Halfway through the class I heard the girls begin whispering again about what it is that was so important to talk about right now.
"It is definitely her I mean come on." I heard one of the girls whisper.
"Her? With him? Theres no way." Another one whispered back.
"He was in the city like a month ago and that's when the pictures were dated, it looks just like them!" A third girl whispered.
"And she is totally Niall's type. Average athletic build, dark brown hair, brown eyes, not famous." I stopped in my tracks the second I heard the first girl whisper Niall's name.
"Is everything alright girls?" I asked them once again, starting to get annoyed with the constant whispering. Especially now that I could hear it was about Niall.
"Oh uh-" The first girl mumbled, not knowing what to say. The second girl stayed quiet but the final girl spoke up.
"Is this you in these pictures?" She asked, holding her phone up to what looks like a tweet.
"What do you mean?" At this point every single person in class was trying to look at the girls phone. I walked over to her and looked at what she was showing me, and of course it was photos of me and Niall. Some from when we first met after my awful date with CJ, some from when we went on our date to mini golf, and some from us outside of the bar we went to after his show. I haven't spoken to Niall since the night of his concert, and I tried my best to forget about him. I hadn't seen these photos before so I guess I did a good job at that.
"I'm going to have to ask you to turn your phone off so we can finish up what we're doing before the bell rings." I said, turning away and going back to the front of the room so I could finish hanging the cards on the wall.
Luckily enough the bell rang without any more questions about Niall and I, but I heard other students in the rest of my morning classes talking about the photos too. When lunch finally rolled around I took mine into Paige's classroom that was down the hall from mine.
"Lola do we need to talk about something?" Paige asked me as soon as I walked in.
"This has been the longest morning of my life." I said, slumping down into a desk. "Apparently there are photos of Niall and I floating around online and I just found out today in my first class of the day." I mumbled as I opened up my lunch. I wasn't having a great start to my day and all I wanted right now was to eat something.
"You haven't seen him in like two weeks how did you not know about these photos? My students are going crazy, apparently the whole school is talking about you now." Paige told me, making me groan. I didn't want to be the center of attention among the students, and I especially didn't want to think about Niall.
"You of all people know how much I tried to push Niall from my mind, I've barely thought about him since I ran into Louis in Starbucks. It hurt when he left me alone in bed without a word." I began to explain, I was choking up a little bit. "I shared more with him the first night we met than I have shared with anyone but you. It wasn't just a one night stand, he made it a point to see me three times during the short time he was supposed to be in San Francisco. I hate to admit it but I miss him, I don't know why he did what he did and no matter how much it hurt I still miss him."
"Oh hun I know it hurts." Paige tried comforting me. "Sometimes people do things they don't want to do because they have to. I saw something between you two that I honestly didn't even see between Brandon and I when we first met. There's a reason he searched the entire crowd for your eyes before the lights faded. But he's unfortunately not your normal 26 year old, maybe he was just trying to protect you from that life." Paige's words made sense, I knew I shouldn't feel crazy for knowing Niall felt the same way about me.
"Right person, wrong time?" I whispered, resting my head onto Paige's shoulder as she was now squatting next to me. "I wonder if he feels the same way."
