I love you,
Cuz you defend me always

"Are you sure about this?" Niti asked as the car came to a halt in front of the large motherfucking mansion that was his house.

"Yup" he said parking the car and pulling the key out of ignition. Niti put her hand over and gave it mild squeeze making him stop whatever he was doing and look at her.

"Look babe, I promise I wouldn't be offended or anything. It's cool-"

"To you maybe but not to me. If I have to be here, I want you here with me" he said, "unless you don't want to" he said eyebrows raised, looking anxiously at her waiting for her to say no she didn't. A part of her wanted to do exactly that.

Eversince the call came that morning, roughly a week ago, there has been some massive tension. His mother called to ask him to come to his brothers engagement party. He obviously said that he would bring me along since we were living together- now, that's basic human decency but his mother didn't seem too keen on that and she didn't shy away from expressing that. They had words over it and he finally said he wouldn't go unless they let him being her along.

Niti knew how important his brother was to him. They were extremely close and she had even met him twice by now, even if briefly, and he was a perfect gentleman. Sometimes she wondered how could they have been born to such a vile woman. She could not really hear what his mother was saying about her, but Parth's reaction and his distressed face gave away more than words probably could. That wasn't the first time it was happening a dozen such had already preceded it. Heated conversations that only lead to despair. He never discussed them with her though. Sometimes she did hear fragments of those conversations and tried to make sense of it; they weren't pretty.

So obviously no prizes for guessing she didn't want to be here. She even told Parth at some point that he didn't have to sour his relations with his parents over her going cause it didn't matter, but then she had seen how important it was to him and she left it at that.

"Niti..." He dragged her name pulling her out of her thoughts.

"I... where were we- right, I do" she said reassuringly and craned her neck to plant a sweet kiss on his lips.

"Lets get going" he said his face lighting up immediately.

They entered through the huge gates that opened to a- again huge- lawn, beautifully decorated with fairy lights. There were small white tables and chairs throughout the lawn for seating purposes and champagne was being served by waiters in uniforms. The podium in the centre has been surrounded with stargazer lillies and Niti couldn't help but agree that everything put together, it looked mesmeric.

She noticed that it was only half filled, a lot of people had yet to come.

"Hey son" a voice, sweet as sacharine but pretentious as hell, called upon them. It was Parth's mother, dressed in white, she looked sort of pretty Niti thought.

"Hello to you too darling" she said looking at Niti, checking her out head to toe. It made her uncomfortable. "You made it" she said again and Niti all but nodded. She could literally feel the spite in her voice despite the sweet tone and she honestly preferred not to have a conversation.

"Do you mind if I steal my son for a bit" she said keeping a hand on her arm. Her head spun around to look at Parth and expected him to be shocked or something but his eyes were dull with annoyance.

"By all means" Niti said looking at the ground and before waiting for another word she dragged Parth away by the arm. He complied but Niti noticed the woman had strength. She could probably drag and throw her out if she wanted to.

Niti got a glass of champagne as soon as they left and decided to stay just there. 'Stay put' she said yo herself, but obviously that didnt work her well. After only a minute maybe she started getting impatient. She tapped her foot on the grass, waiting to catch a sight of the two of her boyfriend and his mother, but they had disappeared.

She didn't know anybody else and even his brother wasn't down yet so she couldn't congratulate him or something. She decided to go look for Parth. Besides she wanted to hear what his mother had to say cause, in all probability it was about her, and yet again pretty nasty for sure. She assumed they were probably at the back side, because she couldn't spot them anywhere so long as her vision wpuld stretch, so she asked her way around and went along to find them.

She found them alright; his mother's white bling dress, standing out in the darkness of the night. She made sure she didn't make herself visible.

"What were you thinking bringing this skank to our party?"

"How dare you call her a skank?" Parth asked enraged. Niti was standing at a distance behind a wall and listening. It was a bit far, but she could the altercation well enough and could hear the hatred ring loud and clear.

"Well that's what she is, isn't she?" She flared her nostrils. "Who is she anyway?"

"Uh my girlfriend" he replied sarcastically.

"Of course, due to excellent choice in partners. But other than that who the hell is she? What is her status in the city? Can she ever match up to us Parth? This is Our party All eminent people come and you've decided to dump some commoner-"

"Okay enough, shut the hell up! I've been hearing and tolerating your nonsense this long, only for Shivam. You want to know who she is? She is one of the top working members in the risk management department in an MNC. She has a life of her own, a house of her own. And she started from scratch, none of this was handed over in a platter to her. She is smart, intelligent, extremely hard working. She takes pride in her work but never gloats about it. She doesn't take anything for granted, including me. She doesn't expect me to agree with her always; she treats me like an individual and respects me for it. She pulls me up rather than drags me down when something goes wrong. There are literally no conditions that come with her love. She is beautiful and gorgeous and lively. She isn't mean spirited like you... So here you go mother, that's my girl" he finished.

Niti had come out and walked up to him, tears streaming down her eyes. She put her hand on his shoulder and when he turned she said the first thing that came to her mind,

"I love you" that perhaps didn't cover what she was experiencing right now- it was a whirlwind of emotions to be honest- but she though it came pretty close.

"Me too" he said, "Lets go home" and the way he said it, it was clear he felt all of that too.
