Every year, millions of dolls are created for the sole purpose of making children happy. Those that can pass through quality control undergo rigid training at the Institute of Perfection, in hopes that one day they'll be able to meet the Institute's high standards and be allowed to pass through the portal to a child of their own. And the ones that don't? Well, they go to Uglyville, a judgment-free paradise where life is one continuous party. That is, for now. The winds of change are blowing, both for the Institute and for Uglyville. But this story isn't about the inner working of a toy factory. It isn't about how a group of would-be rejects made a statement that the Institute of Perfection would not soon forget. It's not even about how dolls all around the factory learned to love themselves for who they truly are.
It's about Moxy, who's stopping at nothing before she makes her dreams come true. She'll seize the day by the throat and throttle it if she has to.
It's about Uglydog. The life of the party. He's dedicated his life to chasing the fun, and to moving on when the conversation starts to get serious. But this time, something stops him from making his exit.
It's about Mandy, who's spent all her life working and straining, primping and crying alone in front of the mirror, always just a hairsbreadth short of being enough.
It's about Wage, who /totally/ didn't resent her best friend for dragging her along into her halfcocked schemes without ever considering Wage's feelings. Why would she? Her life just wouldn't be the same without Moxy! It didn't really bother her that things always seemed to fall perfectly into place for Moxy in a way they never did for Wage. No way, not her!
It's about Babo. The guy you can always count on. Even if lately he's not sure quite how far he's expected to extend himself for the sake of 'lending a hand'.
It's about Lucky Bat. His crush on Moxy may have been what got him into this mess in the first place, but something inside him hopes this adventure brings him one step closer to being the wise doll he pretends to be. The doll he longs to be.
It's about Ox. He's not exactly a control freak, he just can't let his friends experience the same pain he once did. Running Uglyville, keeping his friends entertained, it all relied on his tenuous control over the situation. But thanks to Moxy, circumstances have started to spin out of his reach.
And yeah, it's about Lou. The perfect doll who can accomplish any task with ease, the doll with the power to have his every whim fulfilled at his fingertips... Except for the one thing in this world he actually wants.
This is their story. And it all begins... Today.
Author's Note/Disclaimer
First things first, I do not own any of these characters. They belong to STX.
Secondly, I wrote this with the assumption that the reader has already seen Ugly Dolls. As such, there may be places where the reader knows things which would have been considered spoilers in the original movie, for example, there will be scenes at the Institute of Perfection before the Uglies know it exists.
As for ships in this story, I'm actually going to try my best to avoid any pairings, and there's a reason for that. I've always thought that even if the fans were given the opportunity to decide what happens in a sequel to UglyDolls, it still wouldn't work out because the ship wars would get in the way, like:
"and at the end of the story Lou proposes to Mandy and--"
"No way! Lou belongs with Nolan!"
"But I ship Lou with Ox--"
"Ox iS wITh MoXY!!11!"
"nO oX Is WiTh luCKyBAt!1!1"
And so on and so on until we kill each other. So I'm gonna keep things as general as I can, and you can feel free to imagine your OTP possibly getting together behind the scenes. (Heck, if you really wanted to you could even write fanfiction of this fanfiction, I don't mind! Just keep in mind if you want me to read it that I don't read NSFW, I scroll past it so warnings would be lovely.) Now there are a couple small exceptions to this. If you've read the description you know that Lucky Bat has a crush on Moxy, I did that because I felt like it was hinted at in the movie. I feel like it still can work in a general non-pairing fic though because you can have a crush on somebody and still end up with an entirely different character. So yeah, characters having crushes on other characters is a thing that will happen, but there will not be any serious relationships (note in the future that I placed emphasis on serious relationships).
Also a quick note on character names, these are the names I'm using for the following characters:

I've looked around for names and it seems like the concensus in the fandom is "just make something up", so I picked these and I'm sticking to them. If there's ever any word of these guys getting canon names, I may go back and change them. Or maybe not. It honestly depends on how lazy I'm feeling, lol.
One final thing before we get rolling, and that's that I don't want to stray too far from the original material, so some (read >> not all) of the earlier chapters will follow the movie pretty closely (otherwise it wouldn't be a rewrite, it'd just be a straight-up sequel). With that, I bid you happy reading!
