Dawn entered her new apartment, emotionally exhausted from the night and performance she gave. On the island countertop lay a beautiful bouquet of flowers that had a small inscription for her. Dawn smiled at the thought that Paul had given.
The blunette stood in a hot shower for minutes and minutes, endlessly exhausted and trying to stop herself from crying. Her dream was over and it was perfect, but messy all the same. It wasn't ruined but certainly tarnished by the Kenny's aggression. But she was more upset that it was over, even though she had a wonderful cast to turn home to.
The shower was pointless in her efforts, other than to soap herself up, so she quickly dried herself and put on a matching pair of light pink pajamas and she stared at her phone, trying to stop the tears from falling.
At that time she suddenly heard the door clink open and figured Paul was home, from wherever the man was. For some reason his presence, though calming, opening up a floodgate of emotions, wanting desperately to turn it all off.
She heard a knock on the door, "Yes?"
"Can I come in?" He sounded gruff and exhausted as well.
"I guess so," and upon those words he entered and stated, "I'm gonna kill myself for asking, but what's wrong?"
"I miss Millie so much. But at the same time I'm relieved to get out of the space with Kenny. But at the same time same time, I want to continue acting and not ruin my image because of him, but I'm sick of fearing for my life and body."
Paul stiffened, "Did he rape you?"
"No, but there were times where I felt sure he was going to. He ruined my dream."
"And you question why I hate people," Paul seemed to shrug.
"Paul..."
"I guess try not to think of this as a negative? Think of it as the world giving you more signs to persevere to reach your dream. Because you did. You played your biggest dream role in Broadway at the age of 19. Trivial things matter in the moment but in 40 years you'll appreciate it. You're safe."
"Thanks. And thanks for letting me crash here. I've been such a nuisance recently, I'm sorry."
"It's fine," Paul sighed, adding an uncomfortable silence. After a beat, he decided that maybe he should admit that he finds comfort in her presence. "Even I don't like to be lonely all the time."
