This chapter is a poem written by Lizzie Read during the first week of quarantine
They turn on all the lights
To make their house feel like a home
They turn the music volume high
They're afraid to be alone
We are living in an apocalypse
Where everyone stays inside
Living out an apocalypse
Nothing to do but hide
They hide in their little houses
Cover their faces from the sun
Dodging hands in grocery stores
Isolated from everyone
We are living in an apocalypse
And everyone stays inside
Living out an apocalypse
Nothing to do but hide
They abandon familiar places
Maybe never to return
Only seeing box-screen faces
Making school-things hard to learn
We are living in an apocalypse
You have to stay inside
Living out an apocalypse
Nothing to do but hide
Suffocate our breath
They tell us better trapped and safe
Quarantining prevents my death
But slowly I become a waif
We are living in an apocalypse
Please, child, stay inside
Living out an apocalypse
I have nothing to do but hide
