A Reasonable Fear

Aizawa had had enough, his ears flickered in annoyance, today was the fifth consecutive week in a row where Midoriya Izuku absolutely refused to be in a room with open windows, go outside without a complete protective barrier, and brought himself to the principal's office whenever he was not allowed to go where a barrier was. It was screwing up the class lessons and distracted the other students.

"Midoriya Izuku," Aizawa called out in the middle of class before they left for a field trip, "I hope you can explain your behavior for these past few weeks, what do you think you're doing."

Izuku shuffled nervously, "I don't want to talk about it."

"Is it personal?"

"No."

"Is it private?"

"No."

"Is it embarrassing?"

"Not really."

"Then tell me why you've been acting like this."

The classes attention was on Izuku as he stared at Aizawa, they froze in anticipation as he opened his mouth, "You see....it was a dare, alright? Me and a friend," Izuku shot a poisonous look at Sero, "decided it would be interesting if we tried something new. It took some preparation but finally we did it, we threw a boomerang and hid. It has been seven weeks and it has not returned." The class stifled their laughs when they saw that Izuku looked dead serious, "You think this is funny? I live every day in never ending fear, sometimes I can even hear it whistling through the air around me."

Aizawa deadpanned, if he was correct then the reasoning to his student's bizarre behavior was because he threw a boomerang? He was not mad, the situation sounded too familiar, "Tell me, Izuku, what did the boomerang look like?"

"It had red dots all over it and had a blue background." Izuku and his class looked in curiosity as their teacher seemed to wither before them, "Did you not pay attention to the 'Do Not Touch' signs?! The shady looking hexes placed on it?!"

Sero rose his hand, "Excuse me, sir, how exactly do you know what it looked like?"

Aizawa leaned heavily against the blackboard, "Let me get Present Mic first." He left the classroom and returned shortly with the yellow haired man, who looked terrified, "Mic here will tell you the story."

Present Mic took a very audible gulp, "This will be a bit quick so sorry in advance. Once upon a long time ago, Shota, Midnight and I discovered that boomerang and had the same idea Izuku and his friend did, we threw it and hid from it. We expected it to return to where it was thrown and scared the absolute crap out of us when it headed for the open window. At first, we thought it was a fluke and ran into a different part of the school, but the second we turned around it was circling the windows. It followed us throughout the entire school, some of our teachers tried to stop it, it went right back at us the second they let it go. We had others try to throw it, but it ignored them completely." Hizashi was quivering, "Once it entered the school it was almost impossible to lose it. The situation got so bad that the principal had priests brought in, shawmen, witch doctors, people who worked with the other side. The boomerang nearly killed us before they were able to subdue the boomerang, but the hexes placed on it were to never be lifted. But with new information it seemed that they have been lifted, so if you excuse me, I'll be heading towards an underground bunker made of iron and purified in salt." Hizashi moved to leave the classroom, but Aizawa pulled him back.

"What do you think will happen if it gets back into the school? The dent is still there from where you just barely dodged a pointed attack to the throat."

Hizashi readjusted his glasses and nodded his head, Sho was right, it was stupid to go outside, "Midoriya, how long have you been running from the boomerang?"

"About five weeks."

Hizashi nearly crumpled to the ground, "That means it'll be after you and whoever your friend was."

Sero raised his hand again, "That's me."

"Good, now that we know who you are, you're not to leave our sight. Now tell me, have you heard the whistling noise?"

Sero shook his head, "No, just a faint feeling of something brushing against my neck."

Hizashi gasped loudly, "Seriously?! Sho, this is baaaaaaaad."

Sero looked panicked, "What? Why?"

"It means that devil-rang was close to your neck." Aizawa said bluntly.

"You call it the devil-rang? Seriously?"

"Do you want to live or not?"

Sero made the 'zipping my mouth shut' motion. "Devil-rang it is."

Izuku flickered his ears. "What does it mean when the devil rang is close to your neck?"

Present Mic scratched the back of his neck. "It means it's coming for you first."
