Jenna's POV
I reer in my frustration with the asshole behind me by taking deep breaths. Why the fuck did I freak out? I should have controlled myself because there is no way he's going to let this go now.
I glance at my wrist watch...3.2.1
knock knock.
"Come in honey. Dinner is ready." Mom calls us in. I walk in with the perfected smile and posture, taking a seat next to my mom who is next to my dad, while Mr. Taner sits on his left and Jett next to me.
I wait for everyone to serve themselves before taking a piece of garlic bread and some salad. Yep, that is all I am allowed for dinners with guests. At least I have my dad to thank for being thin.
Our parents were engrossed in deep conversation while Jett and I ate quietly.
"Why so ladylike today? Never seen you eat like that at lunch."
"You look at me eating during lunch? And well this... it's required." I reply just loud enough so that only Jett would hear me.
"Is that all you're going to eat?"
"It's restricted." I say in a tone signaling that he should shut up.
I look into Jett's s eyes only to find him already looking at me. He is trying to figure me out since his eyes are narrowed and eyebrows are furrowed, making my natural response surface- arrogance.
"Don't try to figure me out if you're not gonna let someone do the same to you." My smile turning into a disapproving frown.
"Don't you dare. You have no idea what you'll get yourself into." He grits out with a scowl of his own.
We stare at each other for a few seconds when a throat clearing makes me realize we just said that out loud enough for everyone at the table to hear. I flinch, looking back at my dad with fear in my eyes but smile gracefully. Quickly thinking of an excuse to escape his deadly gaze.
"I'm sorry for raising my voice. May I please be excused, I'm feeling rather tired from school."
"Get some rest dear." My dad nods but there is a tone in voice promising my 'rest' wouldn't last long.
"Thank you again for joining us for dinner Mr. Taner and...Jett. I'll see you in school." I stand up on slightly shaky legs and leave without glancing back.
"ah shit ah shit, this could not have gone any better. I'm so dead. arghhhh!" I pull on my hair once I'm in my room. No matter how many times I go through with what's coming, the wait before it hasn't become any less dreadful. I walk around my room in circles just rubbing my face and quickly tiring myself.
Finally, I decide to make use of the time left to actually take a rest since I'm sure I won't be getting any later. So after a hot shower and removing my makeup, I change into my pajamas and lie on my bed, waiting for sleep to consume me.
................
"Get up!" My eyes shoot open immeditely when I feel a burning sensation on my scalp. I grab my dad's hand that's latched onto my hair pulling me off of the bed and onto my feet.
"I'm s-sorry father." He just replies with a punch sending me across the floor, making me wince at both the searing pain that shoots through my jaw and my along my right elbow as I land on it.
