Anne's POV:

*the next day*

I woke up in an especially good mood today but I hadn't the slightest clue why, I went to the mirror to look at myself quickly before getting ready. My braids had gotten quite long and so I decided to wear my hair down for the day. I had never worn it down to school, but I figured I didn't have much of a choice. So I untucked my hair from my braids and got dressed and ready quickly. I looked in the mirror one last time and realized I looked rather plain today, which I didn't like as it just showed off my homely appearance. So I dashed to my window and opened it with a push. "Why hello dear Snow Queen, do you mind if I take just a bit of your wondrous beauty for myself?" I asked the tree that grew outside my window. "As you can see, I don't have much of it myself, really? Why Snow Queen you are ever so kind! Thank you!" I then plucked a flower off of the blossoming tree and wrapped it into the back of my hair. "Wonderful!" I exclaimed, then I thundered down the stairs.

To my surprise I only saw my dearest Marilla sitting at the table eating eggs and toast. "Good morning Marilla! May I ask where Mathew is?" Grabbing a piece of toast and spreading strawberry jam onto it. "He must still be asleep in his room, I suggest you don't startle him by waking him up." Marilla said smiling.

"That's very unlike him to sleep in so late, but he was out late in the barn last night for God knows what reason so I understand."

"Yes I know, but you best be off to school instead of dwelling on the matter!"

"Of course Marilla! Goodbye!" I said pecking her on the cheek and making my way out the door with my school supplies.

As I walked up the path I saw my bosom friend Diana waiting at the end of the path along with Ruby, my other kindred spirit, Diana and I didn't usually  walk together since her house was quite a ways away from Diana or I's but I guess today was going to be a day of surprises! "Hello Ruby! What a pleasure to have you on our walk to school today!"

"Oh Anne! It's a pleasure seeing you as well and I must thank you for your kindness but I was only here to tell my dear Kindred Spirits that I have officially moved on from Gilbert Blythe and have my eyes on another boy." Diana's mouth dropped to the floor and my eyes must have bugging out of my head because Ruby chuckled and said "Its Moody, he has certainly matured and has really caught my eye." Ruby said "I just thought Anne would like to know, since I have recently seen Gilbert making heart eyes at her." I just stared at her, shook my head like I was cleaning out memories of Gilbert's romantical eyes from my brain, and continued my stroll, concluding Ruby was just wearing rose colored glasses right now as her head was filled with the thoughts of budding romance anyway. As the three of us walked into school I noticed everyone was standing instead of sitting in their normal desks.

Almost instantaneously Ms. Stacy came to the front of the class and said "Good Morning everyone! I see you have noticed your seats have been moved around! You may sit in the seat that has your name on it!" I sat down, but it was not next to my Diana, however it WAS in front of hurtful Josie Pye and loathsome Billy Andrews. "So class, you may be wondering why I have moved your seats, I felt separating you all from boys and girls was really not needed and may make you uncomfortable in the real world when you are NOT separated like that! Especially in collage just a year from now for some of you. Therefore I have seated every girl next to a boy! It will stay this way until school is out and maybe even next year so get to know your new desk mate."

I was utterly puzzled since I was not seated next to anyone at all, then I heard a whisper from behind me "aww even the teacher felt bad and didn't have anyone sit next to that ugly orphan!" Josie said from behind me and Billy snickered. "I can hear you ya know..." I say, whipping around to face them, This shuts Josie up quickly and I swear a saw a flicker of fear race through Billy's eyes. But then it disappears after he mutters something about Gilbert. At the mention of Gilbert's name I look around for him and see he is not to be found in the class at all.

At once the boy bursts through the door and looks straight at Miss Stacey "I am SO SO sorry miss! Sebastian was doing a bunch of work today with harvest season coming up and I had to take care of the baby-" someone snickered at the mention of taking care of a baby since it is "women's work" Gilbert ignored this "and I had to wait until she was asleep and I didn't even notice the time and—"

"Gilbert!" Miss Stacy yells above him and his head shoots up to look her in the eye "it's fine, really! We just started anyway, as you can see we have moved seats so just go to the seat I have marked to you, you can see them on the wall over there." Gilbert takes a quick look at the seating chart and gives a quick smile and Diana looks between me and him. I give her a confused expression before looking around the room once more, this time noticing that the seat next to me was the only open one...

Shoot.

So Gilbert picks up his school things and ambles over to me and I hear a brief whistle from someone in the back, Charlie Sloane most probably, he is Gilbert's best friend and is caught up in the same idiotic idea that Diana has. Thinking Gilbert and I like each other! Pah, oh please!

That's when I realized I was sitting behind the two rudest kids in school and next to my greatest school related rival...this was going to be a LOOOOONG two months.

I smash my head down into my hands as Gilbert sits down.
