"Mom!!" I groaned as we walked out of Grandma's house and onto her car.

"We're having a serious talk. All three of us, young lady." My mom said sternly.

"But-"

"No buts!" She interrupted sharply.

I sighed as I gazed at the trees we passed by through the car window.

I knew there was going to be a serious talk at home.

"I can't believe you Emma! Not only do you skip school, but you somehow also manage to convince your little brother to do it with you!"

"Mom.. We were already late for class!" I argued back.

"That's still not an excuse to skip school! I would've preferred you two arriving late then skipping, and taking advantage of your Grandma's poor memory to do so!" She shook her head as she paced back and forth, with her arms crossed.

"Mom, it-it was my idea!" Matthew quickly blurted out.

I turned my head and looked at him.

"Dude, what are you doing? You trying to get in trouble?"

I whispered.

"Matt, that's nice of you to try to help your sister, but I know you wouldn't do such a thing." She said in a softer tone.

"Matt, honey. You can go to your room."

"But- Mom. Both of us skipped classes- It would only be fair if I got punished too."

I rolled my eyes at him.

Man, why the hell did Matt have to be such a goody goody?

Mom sighed deeply, but nodded.

"Alright Matthew. Hand me your phone, you're grounded with no TV, or phone for 2 days. Now, please go to your room. Emma and I need to talk."

Only 2 days?!

I was probably gonna be grounded for a whole darn month, and he only got 2 days...

"It's not fair!" I snapped.

"You're always favoring Matt!! Always!" I yelled.

"That's not true Emma, and you know it." My mom responded sternly.

"I don't know what's gotten into you lately. I don't know you anymore Emma."

"I don't know you either!" I countered.

"Ever since dad left us, you've been too busy at work to spend time with us!"

"Emma, I work really hard for both you and Matthew, and-"

"And you never even told us why dad left! I hate this, I hate you!" I cried out.

"Sometimes.. I wish you were the one who left and not dad." I mumbled before running upstairs.

I laid in my bed as I buried myself under my sheets.

I knew what I said was harsh, but I didn't care at the moment.
