CENTRAL PARK - MARCH 1903
She’s looking at you.
Your attire is that of an accountant perhaps. Or your uncle. But you seem to be pulling it off, because she is staring at you with those hydrangea-blue eyes.
Mildred strolls over to the damp bench that you are sitting on. It’s very comfortable wearing and sitting in men’s clothes, you’ve realised.
You can sit however you want and no one will look twice. You don’t need to smile for people to listen to you. You can eat whatever you want and you’ll see no disapproving glares.
You just ate a whole box of Cracker Jacks on the way here and you weren’t frowned upon.
You could do this all day.
Be a man.
You could live as a mechanic or a pilot and no one would say that you weren’t fit for the job.
Because you’re a man.
Mildred has sat down on the bench next to you, her fingertips so close.
You can get all the girls, you can go wherever you want to, as a man.
It really is the best way to live.

A/N - hey! Below are pictures of what I think our main character Mary and Mildred would look like in modern times:
Mary (imagine this with straighter hair) :
