NEW YORK - JULY 1903

You have never seen someone look so betrayed. So hurt. So wounded.

Her sapphire blue eyes welled up with tears.

Her heart and yours so broken they could never be put back together. Shattered like glass. Crumbled into dust.

This was it.

You would never see the twinkle in her eye again. Never see her light up at the sight of you. Never again be the reason that she glowed from the inside out, and smiled so brightly you could hardly bear to look.

“Walter?” She trembled. “Is it true? Did you mur... Are you a… a woman?”
You nod, jaw quivering. “I just- I love you so much.”

A pause.

She quavers. “I love you too… but this isn’t right.”

You shakily breathe in.

“I’m sorry but we can’t be together.”

Your time was up.

She kisses the top of your head for the last time. And then she’s gone.
