originally from the east coast of america, ellie moved by the age of six to japan for a more advanced education and due to her parents finding a better job opportunity for the family.
sadly it meant them traveling a lot between miyagi prefecture and tokyo, but they tried to be as present as possible during her childhood to provide as best as they could for her.
during her high school years, she moved in with her cousin hajime, as he was attending the school she'd chosen and was already a year ahead.
despite being an only child, she saw him a lot as an older brother figure and he'd welcomed her from young to hang out with his small circle of friends, consisting of tooru oikawa, sky oikawa, and akira kitagawa.
though she was nervous, certainly for her lack of accent and proficiency in japanese since she had just moved, they had never once made her feel uncomfortable and outcasted. it was nothing but open arms and warmth being with them, even if she was a year younger.
during her junior high days at kitagawa daiichi, she played for the girl's volleyball team as their setter. before moving to japan, she'd attended games of her older cousin back in america and yearned to play the sport for herself.
presented with the opportunity, and being among a cousin and friend who enjoyed said sport as well, she finally took her chance in her first year and tried out for setter.
the sport gave her a thrill she couldn't quite fathom and made her yearn for more, but alas.. as she moved up in grades, school provided her with a heavier workload, which cut into her curricular activity. in the end, she put aside volleyball to be able to focus on school and writing, as she stressed out easily.
it sucked to not play, but she was fine with watching from afar.. tooru especially.
seeing him always brought star to her eyes, he was incredible on the court as a setter, even with his serve. and that astonishment carried into high school, as she continued to watch him get better and better.
attending aoba johsai, she'd joined the literature club to build up her proficiency in writing and be amongst others interested in what she wanted to do later on — become a writer.
volleyball stayed in her life through her cousin and friend, but only from up on the bleachers.
eventually in her second year, with it being the final year for everyone, she wanted to be able to spend as much time with them as possible, and was eventually convinced to assist part time in the club.
even if ball girl was a tiring position, she enjoyed the rush and to be on the court again. that, and it was extra time with tooru.. something she valued dearly.
his plans for the future weren't lucid, but something told her that her time with him was depleting, that he would be leaving.. which left her with but a few months to say the words she'd held back for so long.
with obstacles in her path and a clock ticking away till doomsday, ellie had to act before it would be too late.
