A YEAR LATER

I felt something heavy on my body, I turned around in my bed and saw Grant there. He was still sleeping. No matter how he imagined himself to be, he always looked peaceful while he was sleeping.

I decided I would let him sleep a little bit longer, so carefully I moved towards my side of the bed and placed my feet on the wooden floor. I walked out and closed the door slowly.

I went to the kitchen and started making some coffee. I felt familiar arms pulling me back and smiled instantly.

"I tried not to wake you up" I said.

"I know you did, but you forget I was once a super spy" He joked, "I don't lower my guard"

"I can say otherwise" I talked back, "c'mon let's prepare breakfast" I told him, "everyone will be getting here soon and we'll have to start preparing lunch"

"Oh yeah it was today" He said, "Today is the big day"

"Yeah" I smiled, "now help me get this ready"

We finished breakfast and started preparing all different kinds of food, some friends started arriving as we finished the main dishes.

"Hey!" Joey just arrived, I opened the door and greeted him. He came with James, they actually turned out to be good friends.

"Happy to see you" James hugged me and gave me a bottle of wine, "I thought this was appropriate"

"Oh, and it is" I joked and let them in, "Grant is finishing some stuff upstairs, he'll be back any minute and Yo-yo and Lincoln are in the living room"

"Do you have beer?" James asked.

"You bet" I answered and laughed.

I went upstairs and entered the room Grant was in, I went in quietly, he turned around and smiled, he was talking through the phone with someone from the other side of the world.

"Do you think they'll be able to get here in time?" I asked him.

"They are getting on the plane right now" I answered and took a couple steps forward, "I'll give it two or three hours"

"James and Joey just arrived" I informed him.

"Let's get back then, we don't want James drinking all our beer, do we?" He smiled and pecked my lips.

We walked down the stairs and went with the rest of them.

"Here is the perfect couple" Yo-yo joked around, "We thought we would have to start without you"

"Actually, they're coming, so we will have to wait for them" Grant said. Everyone's eyes lighted up when he said that, it had been eight months since the last time we were all in the same room together.

We started joking around and remembering things, Yo-yo talked about Mack, not in a sad way, we all knew that being an inhuman wouldn't be the easiest thing to assimilate for Mack, so we were happy that he was in a better place now, even if there wasn't better place than the world they'd built up together.

We heard a knock on the door and moved our heads, I smiled, stood up and went to open.

"Hey guys" I greeted.

"It's been a while Daisy" He said.

"We're so glad to be here" The woman added.

"Come on in" I offered, "everyone's waiting for you"

"Are we that late, uh?" She laughed and went to the living room.

"How was the flight?" Grant asked.

"Flight? We could've just sent Gordon" Lincoln stated.

"You know he's busy with work" I answered.

"Your boyfriend can fix that" He told me, "or you for that matter, aren't you the leaders of our community? I mean, you're the bosses of all of this" He wasn't wrong about that.

"Stop bickering" He stopped us, "Come hug me"

I took a step forward and hugged both of them.

"I'm so glad you're here Fitz" I told him, "Same goes for you Jemma"

We sat at the table and continued with the stories. Exactly a year ago was the day it all started, the day the warhead was dropped, and we all reunited to celebrate that the world was now a better place. Wars disappeared, everyone had enough to eat, we all lived in great conditions. There was no poor, there was no rich, everyone was treated in equality because we understood that we were different from each other, and that wasn't a reason to treat anyone wrong.

The world was improving because everyone's interests were on making it a better place. Scientists got together for the first time searching for results, rivalry didn't exist anymore.

Kids had an excellent education, avaliable for everyone. They learnt about the past, about our past, about all the wars, genocides and all of the catastrophes that humans had provoked.

Humans still lived among us, it wasn't a crime not having the inhuman gene, they respected the law. To treat everyone with equality and equity, those were our morals.

Some humans still thought that they had rights over inhumans, those felt the need to get together and plot against us, and they were all over the world. That was my job, to find those groups and arrest them.

"It won't matter how many times I say this to you" Jemma said, "Thanks for believing in us, for believing that we could be saved. I'm really glad you did"

I smiled at her words.

"All I ever wanted was to keep you all safe" I answered.

"And we can understand that now" Fitz said, I saw everyone nodding at that and looked at Grant. He looked at me proudly and I grabbed his hand under the table.

Fitz and Jemma worked in Europe inside the science division, they advanced really fast in areas like medicine and engineering, an example was the travelling time was shortened, it took them three hours to get from Scotland to Florida. They were also getting married in a couple of months.

After Fitz helped improving the formula, they were able to get through terreginesis safely, the engineer got invisibility powers while Jemma got psychic ones.

Lincoln worked as a doctor. He worked with kids in a hospital in Nashville, Tennessee.

Yo-yo worked with our security teams, she was in charge of the division in South America, where groups like the Watchdogs still hunted inhumans.

James also worked in security, he was in charge of the division in Asia and Oceania, things were more peaceful there, so he still lived a pretty normal life.

Joey was in charge of the newborn Inhumans, he helped them learn to control their powers and understand what they went through. Kids still went through terreginesis, but they weren't exposed to the crystal until they understood what it meant and the consequences of it, that way they were more prepared, something similar to Jiaying's teaching method.

In conclusion, the inhumans and more precisely, Daisy and Grant, did what no other human generation ever could. Treating people the same way.
