Trouble at home

"I'll only ask you one more time Samantha, where is Max?" Joe insists.

"I have no idea," she replies stepping away from Joe.

"Did he have a gene sequence event?" Joe asks.

"What?" Sam asks confused.

"Did he go poof Sam?" Sam's dad Gary says as he opens the door and walks in the room.

"Dad! You're involved with this?" She asks.

"Just answer the question Sam?" He insists.

"Kiss my ass!" She screams.

"What's going on here Joe?" Anne asks from the hallway.

"Go away Anne!" Joe demands.

"I will not, what are you doing?" She asks again.

"Help me Mrs. Smith!" Sam pleads as Anne pushes her way through the two men and takes Sam in her arms to protect her.

"Let's go downstairs and figure all this out!" Anne insists as she takes Sam by the hand and guides her through the mass of angry men.

"Now don't you run off with her Anne she knows something and she's not telling, Max could be in danger and she's not telling!" Joe yells as he follows her down the stairs into the living room, Gary follows him and in the living room he meets up with his wife, Sam's mother Nancy.

"I don't know what the hell you guys are doing, but I'm not gonna let you interrogate a young girl like she was a terrorist or something!" Anne insists.

"You don't understand Anne, there are bigger issues at stake here, and she knows something," He informs her.

"Are you going to just let our husbands treat your daughter like this!" Anne asks Nancy, Sam's mom.

"Like they said Anne, there are bigger issues at stake. And since I'm their superior they damn

well better do as I have said," Nancy explains.

Pushing Sam behind her Anne stands her ground, Sam is frightened by what her own parents are saying and doing, but she knows not to say anything.

"She's your own daughter! How could you?" Anne asks.

Nancy doesn't even pay her any attention, she doesn't even look at her daughter. She looks at Joe and Gary and after a moment she speaks her mind.

"I knew it was a bad idea to have an outsider within the inner circle Joe, you two get Sam and bring her into the kitchen where I can have a talk with her." Nancy orders and then walks away.

Joe looks to Gary and he looks back, they both knew this day might happen and both thought they were prepared to do what needed to be done, now they just have to do it. Joe takes a gulp of confidence and despite his wife's urging and pleading he grabs her and pulls her away so Gary can retrieve his daughter. He takes Sam downstairs to the kitchen, sits her down and the conversation starts between Nancy and her, quickly it escalates into a screaming match in no time and the house goes quiet when a loud slap is heard. Anne breaks away from Joe and runs into the kitchen to see Sam lying on the floor and Gary standing over her, she was crying.

"Get your hands off her!" Anne yells. "How could you? What's so damn important?"

"Just trust us, Anne we need to know what she knows," Nancy explains.
