The halls buzzed with chatter like flies on rotten food. I made my way to the art hall to finally see the results of the auditions for the play. The auditions had been held on Friday after school, I had gone begrudgingly after going to the thrift store.

Reaching the bulletin board for results people crowded around, hushed whispers and random talk echoed down the hall. I waited for people to leave so I could take a peek.

The bell rang for first period, and people started to walk to their classes, some giving me angry and jealous glances.

Confused, I ignored it and shuffled over to the less crowded board. A piece of paper listed names and roles. My blue eyes darted through the names at random until landing on mine.

'Wow I actually made it on here.' I thought.

Then looking at the role I saw I got the main role.

'No way.' I was surprised to saw the least. I really don't deserve this, I haven't been in theatre since freshman year and I decide to try now and get a main role?

'So that's why I got those dirty looks.' I realized as I rushed to my first class, gym.

Time skip:

It was now the last class before school ended, drama class. I sat in a seat as class had begun, Mr.Willson had already talked to the class and had now gone to the art room to get something.

Some of my classmates weren't happy with my role in the play, and still gave looks but I ignored them. I decided to go to the back of the stage to escape the looks, but on my way I was met with a familiar person.

Gauges sharp blue eyes burnt into mine as I neared him. "Good job on getting the top role. I guess it takes no effort for a teachers pet though," he mumbled as he sat down on the couch behind the stage.

I sat in a rolling chair and ignored his rude introduction

Gauge pulled a pack of cigarettes from his pocket and rested one on his lips as he fished for a lighter. He lit it and took a big hit from it. Exhaling the smoke above his head, he glanced at me and smirked slightly.

I looked away quickly as he continued to smoke. "You know those things can kill you right?" I asked disgusted.

Annoyance crossed Gauges face and he rested his arms on his knees, cigarette in hand as he blew smoke from his mouth. "Alcohol kills people but you're momma still drinks that." He sneered.

My blood boiled "Go fuck yourself." I growled. I never appreciated when people would bring up my family and their issues.

"Its true but you just wanna ignore what you don't want to  deal with."

I ignored him, as I started playing with my bracelets to distract myself.

"You're really good at being a bitch you know that right? This is why everyone talks shit about you." Gauge said as he stood to walk away.

"Says 'Gauge the great'. You don't know or don't care what I'm going through." I muttered.

"Oh I know, but I just don't wanna give you more attention for your little problems." He  stated sounding bored.

"Then why the fuck were you talking with me last Friday? Especially after I slapped your girlfriend?"

"It's called being nice. I thought I'd try to lift your miserable mood." He explained "don't get it twisted lillith, I don't like what Vicky did to you, but you kinda deserved it." He threw the words at me as he walked away.

I sat sadly in the lonely backroom as I waited for class to end. And when it finally did I rushed home without saying goodbye to Syd. For some reason it really hurt to hear him say that to me so nonchalantly.
