I woke up the next morning, to JJ throwing a beer can at John B, as he almost walked in on his random hookup. "Morning Kie, morning Layne." He said to the two of us, who were previously sleeping on the pullout in the living room.

"morning" we mumbled back.

I sat up, as he grabbed a beer and walked outside. I ran my fingers through my hair, before following him out. He went and laid down on the hammock, staring at the water. I climbed in next to him, clinging onto his arm.

"Layne you better not fall out again." He said to me. "That's why I'm holding on to you," I replied, laughing.

I have a bad history with hammocks. I usually fall out of them.

"You talk to your parents recently?" He asked. "No, they luckily weren't home when I stopped by to check on Lilly yesterday," I replied, resting my chin on his shoulder. John B and I have been close since I met him. His dad loved me. It hit us both hard when he went missing 9 months ago.

"How's she?" He asked. "Good. She's been hanging out with her kook friends like 24/7. Only one in the family to possibly become something" I said to him, a small laugh escaping my mouth. We sat in silence for a while and watched the sunrise.

Everyone had left the house, Kie, Pope, and JJ for work, and John B for a DCS meeting. I decided to go home and check on Lilly.

I walked into the house and heard my parents arguing as usual. I walked into her room, and found her studying. "hey" I said, sitting down on her bed. "Hey" She replied. "How are you?" I asked. "I'm fine." She replied. "Do you want me to take you somewhere? The library, a friend's house? My shift isn't for another 2 hours." I offered the poor girl. "Please." She said, turning around in her chair. "It's getting really bad." She said, tears welling in her eyes. I held out my arms, and she came and I held onto her, comforting her. "I'll talk to them," I said, rubbing her head.

We sat for a minute, before she gathered all her stuff together, throwing it in a backpack. We all feel really bad for Lilly, and we let her hang out with us sometimes, but not always. We try to keep her away from the beer and the smoking. We're all hoping she's gonna turn into something. It took us probably half an hour to walk to the library, where her friends were. "Love you," I said, giving her a hug and a kiss on the forehead. "Love you too. Thanks." She said. "No problem," I said, watching her go and sit with her friends before leaving.

I walked back home to change, and my parents were still arguing. I walked into the kitchen, where they were. "Oh look who decided to show up again." My mom said. "I hope you understand what your doing to your youngest daughter," I said to them. "How would you know, it's not like your ever home." She spat at me. "Yeah because I can't take it! Lilly doesn't have a choice! Can't you guys just get along, please?" I begged. "Well, it would be easy, if your father wouldn't keep fucking everything up." She said turning back to him, starting the arguing. I walked out of the kitchen, slamming the door.

My dad has always been more understanding than my mother. He's the better one of the two.

I walked into my room, and put on a different outfit, before walking to John B's. As I was leaving, I heard the news say there was gonna be a massive storm tomorrow. "Where are you goin-" my mom started, but I cut her off by slamming the door. When I got back to John B's he was the only one home. "Ready?" He asked. "Yep," I replied.

The only place I can't get to by foot on the island is work. I'm a waitress at this restaurant in figure 8. I would much rather work somewhere else, but it pays well.

"Normal time?"

"Yep," I replied, getting out of the van, waving.

Towards the end of my shift, Rafe and his stupid little friends showed up. "What do you want Rafe?" I asked since he only comes in here for me. "You in my bed." He replied. "Fuck off," I said to him, making sure none of my co-workers were near me. "I'll fuck you." He said. I rolled my eyes and walked into the back. My shift was 5 more minutes. I collected myself, trying not to punch him in the face, and finished cleaning all the tables. When my shift was over, I slipped out the back door to avoid Rafe and walked around to the front.

I watched the van pull up and got in. "Hey, John- JJ?" I asked, seeing the blonde beauty. "Yeah John B wanted me to pick you up, he's apparently busy." He said. "Hmm," I replied. "So how was work?" He asked. "Good," I replied, watching as Rafe and them left, winking at me through the window.

I started messing with my nails, something I do when I'm annoyed or nervous.

"Is everything alright?" JJ asked, taking notice of my habit.

"Yeah, it's fine."

"Layne?" He asked, looking at me before focusing back on the road.

"It's fine, just Rafe said something that got me worked up," I said, wanting to move on from the conversation.

"What'd he say?"

"Nothing, just being Rafe."

He turned and looked at me. "Layne, what'd he say?" He asked, getting defensive.

"Just the usual of wanting to fuck me," I said to him.

"He's gonna get it," JJ said, about to turn the car around. "Just leave it," I said.

"No! That's like way fucked up, not to mention illegal. I'm tired of these fucking kooks. Always get what they want."

"Please just fucking leave it and just take us home," I said, raising my voice.

"Fine. Have it your way. As usual." He said, driving towards John B's.

We have our moments like this, quite a few actually, but we usually forget about them fairly quickly. We don't have the time to keep grudges. We drove back to John B's in silence.

We walked inside and saw everyone sitting on the couches. "Finally. Come on let's go to the beach." Kie said grabbing my hand and dragging me towards the door. "Kie wait let me get out of this stupid ass uniform," I said, pulling my hand from hers. "Hurry up!" She said as I went to John B's room to grab one of his beach shirts.

I threw my white bathing suit on, not trusting us enough not to get drenched. I put on some jean shorts and left John B's shirt unbuttoned.

We all walked down, and built a small fire, as John B went and sat down on a small hill a few feet away.

"So Pope why do you want to be a coroner again?" I asked him. "It seems cool, trying to figure out why a person died," He said "Dead people, cool, alright man whatever floats your boat," I said to him lightly laughing.

"Well, what do you want to do?" He asked me. "I don't know," I said, lying back in the sand. "I want to take pictures, travel the world, see things," I said, before pausing. "And if that doesn't work, I'll be a charter fisherman in Alaska," I said, laughing. "That's definitely a massive difference in career options," JJ said. "Yeah," I replied, picking apart a leaf aimlessly. "What about you JJ, what are your life plans?" I asked. "I don't know, wherever the wind takes me." He said. "Kie?" I asked. "Environmentalist, teach people about how they can help with the environment," She said and smiled, enjoying the warm summer night.
