Billie and Brandon were now on their way back. They had decided to return to school. Billie no longer had an ounce of annoyance. Brandon had a gift for putting her in a good mood. They didn't really talked about her new "job". They talked about their lives, and had learned certain things about each other. For example, Brandon had told her why he left New York.
His parents had quarreled with Brandon's employers. The point is, Brandon had made an unforgivable mistake, and his employers weren't very "clean", so his parents decided to go live in LA because they would be safer. ( AN/ this is weird and confuse I know, but i didn't find anything else... sorry...)
Billie hadn't asked about that "unforgivable mistake" he had made, but she knew this kind of thing could happen in New York. As well as it could happen in Los Angeles. Everyone had their problems. So she told him about her own problems, and he was very understanding.
Everyone was in the cafeteria when they got to school. The students watched them, starting to feed the gossips, and inventing improbable stupid facts. She joins her friends, at their usual table, Brandon behind her. She had to introduce "the one with whom she skip class."
"Hey, this is Brandon!"
Despite what Zoe had told her on the phone, and what everyone else may have thought, they were not the type of person to greet a new friend of someone badly. So they all gave him a big smile.
"I'm Zoe. Nice to meet you."
Her voice was not really welcoming, contrary to what her smile proved. Billie noticed their smiles were not really genuine. Brandon, who had noticed it too, swallowed thickly. Matt calmed the atmosphere.
"So, how's the new school?"
"Um, all is well so far, everyone looks... nice... even if I'm pretty lost. But luckily, Billie has been there to help me integrate so far ..."
"Yes what good news... Billie helped you integrate. And how?" Zoe asked, her pupils darkening with at least three pigments.
It was not good at all. The tension was there, and you could feel it at least two miles away. Luckily, all the other students were focused on their conversation and their food. Billie had to end this conversation, and quickly. Maybe it was not a good idea to introduce him.
"Um, I'm coming back... Brandon, can you come with me ?"
"Um yes..."
She pulled him by the arm, ignoring the gaze of her friends and the other students. Her heels snapped on the floor, and she was preparing for what she was going to tell him, and how to explain Zoe's cold tone.
Billie opened one of the empty classrooms and closed the door behind Brandon.
"What was that... I didn't really expect that kind of welcome from them..."
"Yes I know... I'm sorry, it's my fault..."
Brandon frowned.
"What do you mean ?"
"I didn't really give them the true nature of our meeting, and our status."
"What did you tell them?"
"A kind of... sex friend... or a one night stand"
Brandon took a step back, and narrowed his eyes, then, as surprising as it sounds, he smiled, then laughed. Billie opened her eyes in amazement, not seeing what could make him laugh.
"Let me guess... Are they the kind of friends who want to know everything about any of your relationships?"
Billie relaxed, and dared a small smile.
