Annabelle decided to wake AJ and I up by jumping on the bed singing happy birthday, but I wasn't aware that it was anyone's birthday till I heard her sing "bubby".

"How come you never mentioned that your birthday was coming up?" I ask AJ as I sit down on the couch with him.

"Birthdays were never a big deal in the house."

"But it's not everyday that you become an adult."

"Katie it's not a big deal."

"You're right it's not a big deal, but at least we could do something for it."

AJ looks at me and shakes his head. "I am doing something today."

"Sure you are."

"I'm chilling with the boys today."

"Don't you have any other friends?"

He sits there for a second and acts like he's deep in thought, "no."

"For such a popular person I thought you would have a fuck ton of friends."

"I know a lot of people doesn't mean they qualify as friends."

"Interesting." I take a sip from my water. "But seriously you don't have any other plans?"

"Gotta stop by the house and get all my baseball shit." AJ says looking at me. "You could tag along if you wanna."

"Tag along? Am I a little puppy to you?"

He laughs for a long minute and realizes that it's a serious question, "kinda sorta."

"You're such a dick." I mutter throwing a pillow at him.

He catches it, sadly. "I'm a dick that you love."

"I tolerate you."

"I tolerate you headass, yeah okay."

I roll my eyes and change the topic. "So when are you going to the house?"

"Uh soon when Anna comes out of her room."

"She is actually out with Mom." I tell him casually.

"Wait what?"

I start fidgeting with my water bottle, "Mom had to go out and do errands because it's her day off and Anna asked if she could go. So I said yes I didn't wanna bother you while you were showering."

"You could have told me before she left."

"I didn't think it would be a problem speaking that it's my mom."

AJ stands there and looks at me like I'm stupid.

"What are you staring at me like that for?"

"Do you think she could watch Anna for the day?"

"Probably, but I'll be home so I don't see why that's needed."

"You can spend time with me and the boys."

Yes because everyone girl wants to spend a day with four complete dumbasses. "Yeah no."

"You don't have a choice. Get ready." AJ says over his shoulder walking into the kitchen with his phone to his ear.

-

"Why couldn't we go see your lovely father before we saw the boys?" I ask AJ as he drives way too fast down the street.

"Because I rather not have him ruin the day for me, so I'll deal with that last."
