Mr. Miller was good about not getting me out of lunch for a while, but apparently, he's back at it because after the bell rang, he asked me to stay after class. And then he proceeded to walk out of his classroom and now I'm sitting here alone.
"Katie you're still here." Miller says after entering his classroom.
"Not like I was going to leave or go get lunch or anything." I say to him with a sarcastic smile.
"Yeah you can go to lunch right after this."
"What do you need John?"
He sits down at his desks and holds out a camera. "The first game of the season is tonight, as I assume you know, and Jones wants you to take pictures as well as writing reports about the games."
I nod and take the camera from his hands. "I thought that was always the plan."
"Well I was just reminding you."
"Or you just like wasting my lunch time." I say.
"Well there's also something else I want to talk to you about..." he confesses while fiddling with a pen on his desk.
"What's up?"
"I see that you're spending a lot of time with AJ and some of his friends from the team. And I just want to say that I'm happy that you found some friends. Your dad would be happy for you."
I nod and give him a tight smile. "Becoming friends with AJ friends wasn't my choice. I had no control over that."
"Well whether you want to hate them or not," Miller says before smiling. "I don't think you do. They have you smiling more than I've seen since your dad died."
"They're funny people. Doesn't mean I'm happy."
"So, you're saying you're not happy?" Miller asks automatically looking worried.
"I'm content." I tell him, but I can feel the huge smile on my face. "Okay shut up. I'm happy, yes."
Miller smirks. "I told you that you'd want to go to games versus being forced to go."
"Like AJ and Andrew would let me miss the first game of the season. They're all going to be on the field tonight anyways. And it's all they've talked about for the last week." I ramble on.
"I'm just saying it's nice to see you get back into the things you used to love."
"It's one baseball game."
"What about the fish you caught?"
My head shoots up and I look at him. "How the hell do you know about the fish?"
"Jones told me."
"Jesus fuck Coach. Of course, he did." I mumble. "How does Jones know anyways?"
