"You know I didn't notice how many people stare at you." I tell AJ as we walk into school. I look around at the girls and guys staring at us.

"Kind of happens when you're a popular person."

I shake my head and stare down at my feet. "You know I could have driven myself to school. Just because you're staying with me doesn't mean I'm not my own person."

"Who wants to waste gas?"

"Why waste your gas? We could have driven my car."

"But I like to drive. I don't like being driven."

"I don't like being looked at and I feel like everyone's staring at us." I say quietly.

AJ laughs and then puts his arm around me. "I promise you all the staring you think is happening isn't."

"That's easy for you to say. You're always used to being stared at."

"You're assuming that."

"You're a pitcher you dumb fuck. All eyes are on you until someone hits the ball."

AJ nods. "That's if I pitch."

"You start a decent amount of games."

"Sometimes."

I shake my head. "Yeah. The point is you're used to being an attention whore. Me on the other hand, I hate being the center of attention."

"You don't mind having my attention."

"No that scares the living hell out of me too." I admit before stopping at my locker.

"Why does that scare you?"

"You're you. Do I really have to explain that?"

"Yes."

"Wilson!" Zach shouts. Causing AJ and I to turn towards him. Jordan and Andrew are following behind him.

"Hey." AJ says back to them.

"So where did y'all run off to during the party?" Zach asks.

I slam my locker shut and stand there waiting for AJ's answer.

"My little sister called so we went to my house."

Zach and Jordan laugh. "No really. Where did y'all go?" Jordan asks.

"Jesus we went to make sure my sister was straight. Why do y'all always assume I'm tryna fuck someone?"

"It's who you are Wilson." Jordan says casually.

I look at all the guys somewhat disappointed and shake my head. "I'm going to class." I walk away not caring what any of them have to say to me.

And I was almost walking alone, but then Andrew showed up next to me.

"You just gonna run behind me every time I walk away from the group?" I ask.

"Do you know how to start a normal conversation?" He asks back.

"Okay let's start over. Good morning Andrew."

"Good morning Katie."

"Now back to what I asked, why do you keep following me?"

"Because I'm waiting for you to say you like AJ."

"Not gonna happen."

"Why's that?" He asks taking the same turn as me.
