A couple days ago I received a text message from an unknown number. I usually ignore those but was lead to read it because of how it started.

"Hi Laurel. I know that I am the last person you want to hear from but I wanted to say congratulations on your accomplishments . You're one of the hardest working people  I know and you deserve every reward you get. I'm sorry it took me 5 years to muster up the courage to text you. Ill be in your city this weekend and would love to meet up for lunch. On me."
-Your AK-

Your AK!? It's been 5 years since I last saw him. I can still remember every details from that unendurable night. The phone call, the argument, the fight and "the bleach." I know I shouldn't be exulting over damaging another person's property but that was and still is amazingly satisfying. He deserved it!

Why now? Is he okay? I wonder what he looks like after all these years. Is he over me? Am I over him? What if..... wait a minute, what am I doing? I'm with Brandon now. I can't be thinking about Darian.

Tonight I left my office early. I usually burn the midnight oil but ever since that text message  a couple days ago I can't seem to focus. Should I meet him? What will Brandon say? Should I tell Brandon?

I got in my Jeep Rubicon and headed to my favorite after hours spot , Liv's Diner. Their Oreo Shake  and Turkey Melt  is usually a good pick me up after a long day.

I walked inside and as usual it's only a few of us there. Bill from BD Bro's, he's the CFO. Gary from Align Investments , Mariam our waitress, along with some newbies that just discovered the place.

I like to sit far from everyone else. That small corner adjacent to the hallway that leads to the kitchen's door. In that space, I'm able to see everything outside. The moon's reflection on the pond in the park across the street. Dimly lit park lights creating shadowy images on the benches. King boulevard that stretches miles long.

As I was sitting there gazing, a deep bassy and monotone, but very familiar voice said
"Hi."
I looked up and to my surprise it was Darian standing over me.
