Daryl's POV
My brother was alive, I couldn't believe it. I thought I was hallucinating when I heard him screaming for Hershel. I'd never seen him that scared before in his life.Ciara was starting to change him, and as much as I hated the girl, She was changing him for the better. I don't know why I hated her, maybe I was just jealous that Merle had someone like her and I didn't.
While Merle was taking a shower I went to check on how Cici was doing. I'd always called her Cici because I liked seeing how much it pissed the girl off.
When I got into the room Hershel was trying to pull out the bullet out of her stomach. There was so much blood, I didn't even know how she was still alive. I was so focused on her that I barely heard Hershel call my name.
"Daryl! Do you know her blood type!?" He asked.
"O negative, same as mine." I said. I knew this because we'd gotten into a car accident and the hospital didn't have any O negative blood.
"Well she's very lucky because if you didn't she could die. I need to do a transfusion, are you up to it?"
I nodded and went to sit in the chair beside Ciara. I didn't even feel it when Patricia put the needle in my arm. I couldn't lose her, if she died I don't know what would happen to Merle. It felt like hours before I felt Patricia nudge my arm, and tell me that I could leave. I noticed that Maggie, Beth, and Hershel had already left.
I looked over at Ciara's body, some of the colour had returned to her face. She'd always had a beautiful - wait what the hell was I thinking, I hate her! I shook my head, it's probably from the transfusion. Before I left I took one last look at her, I did hate her.... right?
Merle's POV
I woke up to someone shaking me, "Merle ya gotta get up now." I looked up to see it was Daryl that had woken me up. "They have to try and get the bullet out now." I nodded and looked over at Ciara. She wasn't looking much better, if anything she looked worse.A few seconds later Hershel and his family came in with a bunch of medical shit, and I had no clue what anything was. Just as I was about to get up I heard someone groan beside me, it was Ciara. It took her a minute before she saw us, "Merle?....Daryl?" She asked "Where am I?"
"Hey princess," I said. "We are at this man Hershel's farmhouse. There was an accident and you got shot. These people are gonna help ya, but to do that they're gonna have to pull that bullet outa ya."
She looked down at her stomach realizing for the first time that there was a bullet inside of her. Her face paled, "It hurts Merle." She whimpered.
"I know, but ya gotta be strong." I told her grabbing her hand in mine. I noticed that Hershel and his family had already set up and we're waiting for us. "They're gonna take it out now, okay C?" She nodded and I motioned for Hershel to start.
"Daryl I'm going to need you hold down her legs, and Merle hold down her shoulders." Hershel told us.
When we were in positions he started to dig out the bullet with something that looked like tweezers. as soon as he started digging in her stomach Ciara let out a blood curdling scream.
She kept screaming and screaming, and it didn't look like Hershel was making much progress. "Daryl, she's going to need blood." Said Hershel, "Patricia go start the transfusion."
Daryl got up to get his blood taken and I reposition myself so I was holding down her legs as well. After another five minutes Ciara was still screaming and there was blood everywhere.
"STOP!" I screamed. "YOU'RE KILLIN HER!"
"Merle!" Hershel said sternly. "Do you want your girl to live?"
"DO IT NOW!" I yelled at Patricia who was just starting to put Daryl's blood into Ciara. She was screaming louder then I ever thought possible.
Her screams turned into low whimpers and then nothing. I looked over to see she had gone limp. "W-w-w-wait wait, wha- wh- what..." I stuttered, she was dead, we were too late.
"She just passed out." said Hershel. I sighed in relief, brushing my hand over her clammy face. "There we go." I looked over to see Hershel pull out a small piece of the bullet. "One down, five more to go."
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"The bullet broke into pieces after it went through the deer," he said. "I need to remove the remaining shards."
"Ya saw how she was." Said Daryl, who was still giving blood. "She won't be able to handle it."
"I know," replied Hershel. "And that was only the first one. I'll have to go deeper to get the others. Her bellies distended and her pressures dropping one of the shards must have nicked one of her blood vessels causing internal bleeding. I need to open her up and stitch the tear, and while I'm doing this she can't move at all. To do this I need to put her under, but then she won't be able to breathe, same bad results."
"What will it take?" I asked.
"You need a respirator." said Otis.
"Yes." said Hershel. "And the tube that goes with it, extra surgical supplies, drapes, sutures."
Daryl spoke up, "If ya had all that, you could save her?"
"I could try." he said. "But the nearest hospital went up in flames a month ago."
"The high school," muttered Otis. "They set up a shelter there, should have all the supplies we need. It was over run last time I was there, it could be better now. I could take someone up there with me and get the supplies."
"I'll go with ya," said Daryl.
"The hell you are!" I said. "We need your blood, and I very much doubt you'd be able to walk out that door."
"He's right." Otis said. "I'll go ask the people at the camp, see if they'll go."
"I should thank ya man," I said.
"You thank me when your girl is up and a bout."
It's weird having someone do things for ya, I've never had to rely on anyone before. But now I'm needing people more then ever, and it's killin me. I hate them thinking I was weak, but truthfully it felt like I was dying on the inside. I know I never was one to be about feelings, but I was more then positive that I was over my head with this girl.
I rested my forehead against Ciara's, "Its all gonna be alright C..." I murmured loud enough for only us to hear.
