Merle's POV
It's been days since the attack, Rick fixed the gates and reinforced around it. Ciara hadn't left my room in the few days, I'd bring her food and she'd eat it. When I slept at night she wouldn't say anything to me, just curled into my side and silently cry herself to sleep. The only people that went to see her were Martinez and Elena. Daryl had become distant with her, I think my baby brother's scared of her. He won't let Alex out of his sight, he's acting like she's his daughter.
I was helping Martinez load some magazines for the rifles, which was challenging to do with one hand. We just sat there in silence, there wasn't much to talk about. "How is she?" He asked me.
I placed the clip I was loading into the table. "Not that great, she won't talk to me, or anyone else. She's becoming distant, I worry about her."
Martinez nodded. "She needs to get out, take her hunting or something. Anything to take her mind off of what happened."
I sighed. "Sure, you mind if I go now?"
He shook his head. "Nah, I got it."
"Thanks," I said with a nod and went to get Ciara.
When I reached my room I found Ciara sleeping in a ball on my bed. I grabbed my pistol and her bow, then went to wake her up. "Ciara," I whispered as I shook her gently.
She slowly opened her eyes, when she saw me she gave me a small smile. I frowned, "You gotta talk to me C."
She looked at her hands that were clasped together on her lap. I grabbed her chin and raised it, so she would look at me. "You've gotta say somethin, don't just ignore me."
"Sorry," she whispered. "What do you want?"
I smiled, even though she was quiet, it was something. "I was wondering if you wanted to go hunting."
Her face saddened. "I don't know Merle."
"Please, it's just gonna be us."
She sighed. "What about Daryl?" I didn't say anything, just looked everywhere but at her. "He hates me doesn't he? I scarred him, Alex, god Merle I fucked up."
I cupped her chin with my hand. "No you didn't, my baby brother just needs time. You know Daryl, he's...stubborn, it'll take him some time."
She nodded. "I guess you're right, so about that hunting?"
I smiled and handed her the bow. "Lets go now, while there's still some light."
Ciara stood up and did something I hadn't seen in a long time, she smiled. "Lets go Merle." I followed her out the door and headed towards the woods.
Ciara's POV
As I walked with Merle to go hunting, I couldn't help but notice the looks I was given. They weren't looks of disgust, they were looks of pity. I looked around for Daryl and when I made eye contact with him, he quickly looked away. "Piece of shit," I muttered under my breath.Merle grabbed my hand. "Don't let him get to you C, he'll come around." I didn't reply to that, just kept following him into the woods.
When we reached the woods, I dropped Merle's hand and started looking for tracks. I heard Merle whistle to me, I looked up to see him motioning me to come over. "Look here C, found ourselves a deer."
I smiled at him. "Well let's go find it then!" He gave me a small grin and started tracking the buck.
We'd been walking for a few hours when Merle said we should take a break. We sat down beside a tree and just relaxed, I leaned my head on Merle's shoulder and closed my eyes.
