The new recruits filed into the training room like a line of baby ducks following their mother. They looked to be about sixteen to eighteen years old, some had the mature faces that have seen war. While others still had their soft innocent babyfaces. I stood next to Samu, waiting for him to scope them out and decide which weapon will enhance their power. The room is so quiet you could hear a pin drop. The only noise you can hear is the sound of the recruit's breathing heavily. I study them as well, some seem like combat may not be their strongest power. I think about what Samu is going to make me do next, it might be to tell them the legend about our powers even though he knows I don't believe in the Gods. Samu walks up to the line of little ducklings and goes one by one down the line asking for their names. Once finished he comes back to where I am standing and motions for the recruits to come closer.
"Welcome to Red Dawn Alliance. All of you probably had no idea you even had powers, some of you may not have even known these powers existed in our world. This is Atlas," Samu motions his hand in my direction.I give them a slight nod of my head and that's the extent of my warm welcome. "Atlas will be your trainer. She will help you figure out how to control your gift from the Gods. She will help you figure out if combat is your strongest power or if it is your weakest. Now she will tell you the legend of our powers, for those of you that have led a life unaware these powers existed," Samu told them.
I step forward and take a deep breath in, god I hate doing this. I look at Samu hoping he'll spare me, but in return, all I get is a cold stare and nod.
"There were six gods that roamed our world long before we did; one held the power for mind control, one for combat skill so deadly they were feared by all the other Gods. One with the power to help the earth grow and give our world the gift of beautiful trees, sweet fruits, and fresh vegetables. One that had the power to start a fire in their hands whenever they need be, a flame so bright and dangerous. So dangerous it is said to have burned the eyes of the God's enemies. One who could control water with the flick of a finger, creating a monster wave in seconds. Lastly, a God who could create a giant tornado and lightning just by thinking about it. It is said that once they created a windstorm so powerful it destroyed the enemy's town. Our gods are talked about as being the most powerful beings to have walked our world, but one day they disappeared from our world never to be seen again," I tell the group of ducklings.
I need to take a deep breath because good god that was too much talking for me. The looks on the recruits' faces vary, for most their foreheads have wrinkles, noses are scrunched up, their eyes have a twinkle of intrigue and mystery, and their eyebrows knit together. Some have their eyebrows cocked, lips set in a straight line, and their eyes say you've got to be kidding me right, and I'm with you guys. I think this is a load of crap.
"Thank you Atlas," Samu says with a smirk thrown my way. "All of you should be prepared for some long days ahead if combat is your strongest power. We will train you so hard your body is going to feel like you've been run over by a truck every day for at least a week. Atlas will be demonstrating how our power works and just how powerful it can be," Samu tells them.
He motions for me to step onto the training mats. I take a deep breath as I close my eyes, and focus on my body. I focus on how I can feel when there's someone behind me before I can see or hear them, how my hands react when Cordelia is clenched in my right palm, and how all my senses heighten to the point I can hear the breath of my next victim. I open my eyes and look at Samu, giving him a nod of my head he tosses Cordelia at me. I catch her with ease. I hear the recruits gasp like they thought I wouldn't catch my own blade with such ease. I get my head back in the game, looking at Samu I give him a little smirk. It's time for me to be the show-off now teacher.
