The next day, Delilah took Samus down to the training field as Marth had instructed.

She projected metroids in front of herself and called Marth up to demonstrate how kill it with a sword. Taking off her helmet, she explained, "Their weaknesses are ice, missiles and power bombs, but since you all fight with swords I want you to focus on the nuclei. If you cut right down the middle, it should take care of them." Marth sliced through the projection and it split into two. Samus then addressed the Mages, "Since they are vulnerable to ice, I want you all to cast ice themed spells on them."

"But please don't strain yourselves. You are all important to this kingdom," Marth interjected.

"Yes," Samus agreed, nodding. She then turned back to the whole army. "I'll be tossing up Power Bombs as often as I can, but we can't just rely on them because of the number of metroids. Every single person here is important for the accomplishment of this mission. I also want to inform you that Power Bombs are very dangerous; when detonated, they have the ability to spread a high-temperature heat wave over a large area, impacting living things. This means that they can vaporize humans instantly. I want you to be aware of how dangerous Power Bombs are. Their path of destruction can't be obstructed with common materials. So please, be cautious and very aware of your surroundings."

She turned to Marth and he nodded. He stepped up and gave his speech, which rallied the crowd. He ended it with the crowd shouting and waving their swords about. They then marched down to the cave where the metroids were being held. They managed to sneak into every entrance and they soon had the place surrounded. Samus, Ike and Marth were at the head.

They crept through the cave and Samus smiled over at Marth. He couldn't see her through her helmet, but somehow he knew to smile back.

"It's just like the day we met," She said to him.

"Let's hope it doesn't end the same way," he said under his breath.

They finally got to the catacomb holding the metroids and Samus surveyed the area. There were about fifty space pirates loading up the metroids. Samus turned to Marth and Ike.

"We can take out the space pirates, butwe'll have to be mindful of the metroids." Marth nodded. "It looks like there are more down that way, so you handle this area and I'll go check it out." She handed them each an earpiece. "Take this and I'll keep you posted." He nodded again, placing it in his ear.

Samus turned to leave, but Marth stopped her, "At least take some men with you."

"I'll go with her," Ike said and Marth didn't seem to like the idea, but he agreed.

Samus and Ike walked slowly down a corridor to another smaller catacomb. It looked like there were hostages being held there.

"Caeda..." Ike whispered. Samus followed his eyes to see a woman with blue hair unconscious. Samus then looked around, and what she saw made her heart drop.

"Marth," she whispered into the earpiece.

"Yes?"

"Get everyone out. Now." Ike looked at her confused.

"What about the metroids?" Marth asked, his confusion matching Ike's face.

"Just do as I say!" She then turned to Ike. "Get these people out however you can. I'm going back to my ship and when you give me the all clear I'm going to hit the button. And don't you dare tell Marth. He'll just try to stop me."

"What!? No! Why!?" He protested by loudly whispering. Samus shoved him to look around the corner and he saw him; Medeus. "But what's that thing with him?"

"My nemesis. Ridley. I've had trouble defeating him so many times. Ridley is the Medeus to my Marth. So when I tell you to get everyone out of here, you take everyone and get as far away as you can."

"But what about you?"

"I'll take care of them. Just get everyone out and take Caeda to Marth."

"Samus... I-"

"Now!"

Ike stiffened up and nodded angrily at her. "Fine! But I'm not leaving without you,"

"Now isn't the time for you to be 'the Radiant Hero'." Samus said as she turned and ran out of the cave to her ship.

Once out of the cave she climbed on board her ship and started it up. She flipped a few switches and hailed Ike on the ear piece.

"What's the status?"

"We're almost all out."

"Wait who's that? Where's Samus, Ike?" Samus heard Marth through Ike's mic then he turned on his own.

"Samus? Samus where are you?"

"I'm on my ship."

"Why did you make us evacuate? What's wrong?"

"Are you with Caeda again?" Samus asked, avoiding his questions.

"Yes but-"

"That makes me happy... I'm glad you two are reunited."

"Samus I-"

"Just head back to the castle. I'll take care of the metroids."

"But how?"

"If I tell you, you have to swear you won't interfere."

"As the crown prince of Altea, I swear."

"Remember that button?"

"Samus you can't possibly-"

"You swore," she teased. However, though she was trying to be lighthearted, her emotions betrayed her and she felt herself crying. "I suppose I ought to be honest with my feelings, huh?"

"What are you saying? Don't talk like that. We can figure something out."

"It's too late, Marth." She paused, landing her ship on top of the cave. She flipped a couple switches and the red button exposed itself. "Marth?" She asked, pushing the button and starting the count down.

"I'm here..."

"I-"

Suddenly her ship exploded, taking the cave with it and leaving nothing but static on the other end of the radio.

Far from the cave stood Marth and his army. Beside him were Caeda and Ike. He slowly pulled out the earpiece and held it tight in his fist. Ike shouted in grief as he shoved his sword into the grass, lighting the ground around him in small flames. He knelt down. Marth placed his hand on Ike's shoulder and they stayed like that for a moment in respect for Samus: the strange woman from space who saved Altea from the flying jellyfish.
