〣"That was so fucking embarrassing!" Steve groaned as he was laying in his bed listening to Bucky's and Sam's giggles. He told them about his encounter with Tony on the beach 2 days ago and they couldn't help but laugh at the absurdity. And Sam needed clarification 3 times that Steve actually said "Nice Tony we're having" instead of weather.
"Steve...that is golden. How did you come up with that?" Bucky asked while trying to contain his laughter. The three of them were FaceTiming late on a Monday evening.
"I didn't come up with that! I just—it slipped...it just slipped out!" Steve stumbled over his words, Steve was too busy staring into the ceiling to notice Sam and Bucky looking at each other through the screen and smirking.
'I think he's got a crush.' Bucky slowly lipped, Sam seemed to have caught on faster than Bucky thought but Sam had been thinking the exact same thing just before that and he agreed. He nodded, almost bobbed his head to show how on board with that Sam was. Steve quickly sat up and looked to his two friends once more with a disgusted look.
"I probably scared him off. He thinks I'm weird or some shit, I just know it."
"Steve, what's it to ya? You met Tony like...4 days ago, why would it matter?" Sam asked, the right side of Bucky's lips pulled back and he raised his eyebrow on the same side of his face.
"Cause, duh, he's got," Bucky decided to tease Steve a bit but not make much of it. At least not in a conversation with Steve, later that night Sam and Bucky would call each other and discuss it. Very thoroughly. "A crush on the genius, son of a billionaire and philanthropist."
"Stop! I do not!"
The three of them had to hang up once Sarah had finished dinner and she had eavesdropped a bit on the teenage boys' conversation about Steve crushing on Tony Stark, whom she knew who it was from seeing him on tv or in magazines sometimes. She didn't know her son had a thing for guys, and it didn't bother her. She found it adorable how he would reject and disagree with his friends claims.
And once she spoke of it by the table while eating tortellini Steve said what he said to his friends "I'm not crushing!" While a deep red spread across his cheeks and to his ears. Be then added "And don't listen to my conversations...it's weird, mom."
"Alright, alright." Sarah chuckled and they kept eating. Sarah asked the usual questions a parent would ask, how school was and if something interesting had happened. Despite it being only Monday so there was not a lot of room for events to go down, but, things still happen on Mondays so let's not judge the worst day of the week. It is for a reason. Let's not be too kind to Monday.
Steve seemed distant to Sarah anyway, despite Steve insisting that he was completely fine. She knew he was thinking about something, a mother's intuition and all that. Steve thanked his mother for dinner and went back to his room where he laid to listen to the rain and drown himself in thoughts that weren't from that Saturday, it was hard but Steve could instead focus on his physics homework and then cleaning his room and actually also rearranging the furniture a bit.
He stole the lights from their storage that they used as Christmas decorations and hung them up in his ceiling all across, his walls were a darker green and to the right of his windows stood his bed. Against the right wall. A desk especially for drawing stood to the left of the windows against the same wall with pictures scattered across it. He had thought, multiple times, of trying out digital art but he couldn't really afford a tablet or iPad so he had to stick with A4 paper and pens and pencils. It was all he needed at the time anyway. Steve was feeling hyperactive and energized, so sleep was not the next thing he'd make himself do.
