"Can you believe him?" I set down Evan's clothes on top of the toilet lid as I sat on the countertop with a bowl of fruit salad on my lap.
All of a sudden, Evan let out a small squeal followed by a thud. "Um, I'm showering," he said, popping his shampoo covered head out of the shower curtain.
"Did that noise seriously came out of you?" I gurgled with laughter, almost choking on a piece of pineapple. "I'm a paramedic with a nursing degree. I have seen my fair share of naked bodies. Plus is not like I'm in the shower with you."
I watched as he shook his head in defeat and continued with his shower. "What were you talking about?"
Letting out a sigh, I stabbed a piece of kiwi with the fork. "About my father. I still cannot believe that he is done with his military tour and never bothered mentioning it to me, especially the part that he is apparently living in California." The sour taste of the kiwi, making my mouth pucker, mimicking exactly how I felt about the whole situation with my father. "What type of parent does that?"
I was aware that my relationship with my father was not the best, but we only got each other since mom passed. The least he could do was mention where he was currently instead of leaving me in the dark and believing that he was still risking his life, God knows where.
"Look, I cannot talk for him because I am not a father, and I don't have what someone might consider good parents, but I can assure you that he did not tell you for a reason. It might be a stupid one or not, but I'm sure it wasn't ill-intended."
Reaching behind me, I grabbed a towel and extended my arm, ready for Buck to grab after he turned off the water. "If I'm utterly honest with you, I'm exhausted with all this. My whole life is a damn, poorly written movie. The heroine is new in the city, one parent is dead, and the other one avoids the girl. The reason why she moved away and started a new life has decided to follow her. Lastly, my favorite part, someone wants the girl dead." I quipped and continued eating my fruits. "Sounds like a 0% rotten tomatoes type of movie."
I was too busy ranting about my problems to realize that only a curtain was separating me from a naked Evan. It was not until he got out of the shower slightly damp with a towel wrapped around his waist that it hit me. At the sight of his body, I swallowed a small piece of unchewed strawberry, causing me to choke.
"Whoa, are you okay?" Evan reached over quickly to pat my back in an effort to help me. I swatted his hand away in embarrassment.
"I'm fine." I spluttered between coughs as I tried not to stare at how droplets of water slid down his tone tattooed chest.
I still find it quite ridiculous how hormones still affected me the same way they did when I hit puberty whenever I was around Evan. I kept telling myself that this whole feeling was due to not being with anyone intimately for almost a year; the only action I got came from rare random dirty dreams. In reality, I had a feeling that there was something more into the reason for these feelings, but I was too scared to admit or even explore them.
