You don't understand

"No." That's what Hongjoong said before he even heard anything that came out of San's mouth.

That left the omega with a big question mark on his face, as if he hadn't quite understood that straightforward answer. He didn't even start talking and was already rejected? It was ridiculous.

"You don't even know what I was going to say!" Exclaimed San, while stirring that food, which in the circus was called ration, a mixture of proteins, vitamins and fibers. Bread was part of the ration, carbohydrate and a little glucose. There was no pleasure in eating that. Only to survive.

"I don't need to, San. It's been a week since you arrived and I was able to tell you from my experience that you only think about running away." Hongjoong said, taking a piece of bread. His face was one of patience, but deep down San could smell his fear.

"Only I find it strange that you, of all the people here, don't want to run away with me?" He questioned angrily now. It was not possible that Hongjoong would not want to leave here. Simply unthinkable.

"San, you don't understand anything."

Hongjoong sighed deeply, dropping his hand back to the plate. They had little time to eat, so they should finish soon, otherwise it would be another long hours of training on an empty stomach. He watched San carefully not to intimidate the omega, as his Alpha instinct said that Omega was being too bold to speak like that.

He didn't mean it badly, he knew it. Hongjoong who was the stranger for wanting to stay in the circus that abused him and treated him badly, worse than animals, like the tigress that was in the next car.

But San knew nothing about living with humans. He could even say that he went to the city in disguise, with his friends, to buy things or go to the riot, but living among them was difficult, almost impossible.

Either you lived worse than beggars, having to kill and steal, or you were part of a select group of people that the government favored, the rich and noble, only then was it possible to hide the fact of being a wolf well, because regardless of the case, if they caught you, you would die or become a lap dog.

There was no middle ground for living inside the city as a wolf.

For Hongjoong, it turned out that the best option would be to live like a lap dog that performs at the circus. One blow to his wolf pride, but one more chance to survive. He was already so numbed that he didn't even know which one was more important.

San was being too naive. If he doesn't learn now, life will teach him later, and seeing the injuries the boy had when he arrived it was incredible that he hadn't yet learned how difficult it was to survive on his own. And Hongjoong didn't know the fact that San was at least a month and a half pregnant, that could completely change the game.

"No, San. Everyone I met was just like us, they told me the same thing. And guess what." He summed up his thoughts and went back to eating, he wouldn't miss a gram of food. "They all died. If they are not eaten by that shit, they are slaughtered like dogs in the kennel."

San didn't know what a kennel was, but he understood it nonetheless. The air around Hongjoong was no longer friendly, he was losing patience, but he soon recovered.

"And I don't want to see another die, San. I don't want to see you die." His expression was sad and lonely. His heartbeat was angry and stressed before, but now it was a sad melody. San was anxious about that.

"I know ... Hyung." It was the first time that San had called him that affectionately. The word Hyung was melodic in the alpha's ears. Hongjoong's heart beat faster, how long has it been since anyone called him that? "But you ... don't understand either." San looked much more serious. "If someone, before I arrived, managed to escape, so can we!"
