| Like every other night |
It is dark out. The sky was filled with clouds, blocking the brightly lit stars. The street lamps were the only thing lighting up the dark. I walk the quiet city sidewalks. It was only a week day so many aren't up this late. Only a few cars pass by on the streets probably heading home.
I stop in front of a cross walk and wait for the light to turn green. As soon as the light flashes the color I need it to be, I cross the street. The sidewalk was beside the roads with another sidewalk on the opposite side. A few shop buildings are placed in front of the sidewalks, allowing people to window shop during the day.
This is where I normally walk, everyday. Nothing different. Always around an hour or two. My house was always far from where I worked but it was nice because I never liked my house anyways.
The way I live is okay but not the most comfortable. I'm still a student, study, get grades, sit in a boring class. Yes, all that. I have a family... ish... our relationship is never the best, the lies, mental pain, and bad history never helped build that family bond. I don't do self harm nor do I get beaten by my parents, well not anymore. I work so I have freedom, if I didn't, I would be stuck under the same roof as my parents probably losing my sanity. I have no friends which is ok, I never really keep them. These long night walks are the only thing that keeps me a decent human being.
Silence.
Like every night.
Working from after school hours till very late a night isn't the most ideal for a student but I need the money so I can get out of this place. Don't get me wrong, LA is nice but it isn't my type. Maybe out of the country would be nice, I don't know where I would go just anywhere but here.
I enter the quiet streets of a neighborhood just at the outskirts of the city. My eyes look around at the one or two story houses that are lined up. Each of them are gated and have few trees on their lawn. The houses didn't have pretty designs nor where they too different from each other. Every house held one out of three different shades of brown or a grey. The roofs were either grey or black. Windows are rectangular or square with a white lining. People that live in this neighborhood are normally families that has a lot of money with a few kids, maybe event a dog.
My feet continue to walk straight till I see my three story, greycolored house. I walk up the concrete steps and stop at the welcome mat I have always hated. We rarely have guests over but my parents insisted on keeping it there to make our house like more "homey" from the outside.
I take my keys out, which was attached to a small rabbit key chain that I stole from a gas station that I never went back to. It was only a one time thing. Anyways, I was only 10 years old, I didn't know what I was thinking. The front door was unlocked and I enter the dark cold house.
Just another night walk.
