She told me that she loved me by the Water Fountain

~2D Point of View~

We were just 18, we had no clue what we were getting into. I told her how I felt for her, sort of, and she told me she did too. We were too young though, I wish I had known...

"Could you meet me by the fountain after school?" I asked her, my good friend Y/N, I've had a crush on her for quite some time but I was always too scared or busy to ask her. I had had enough and decided that today's the day! "Of course Stu!" She said with a smile as we went our separate ways to class. I was always sad when we had to split up, but I had Science and she had Math.

Once the bell signaled us to leave I ran as fast as I could, tripping over the steps and cracks on the concrete as I made my to our confirmed spot. My hands were sweaty and my heart was beating so fast I could've sworn I was having a heart attack! I saw Y/N make her way over, her H/L H/C hair swaying in the wind, her beautiful E/C eyes glued to the ground. She never held her head up. "What's up?" She asked once she was directly in front of me. I tried to speak but my voice just didn't want to work at that moment.

"I- WAnt to go out?" I mentally groaned in annoyance from my own voice cracking while asking an important question. "Oh..." she muttered and I was ready for whatever came next until she said simply "Yes! I was hoping you'd ask." I was very surprised but happy as I swept her up into a hug and planted a kiss on her cheek.

~1 Year Later~
Y/N and I had been together for about a year and we were as happy as could be! She took care of me while I was in a vegetative state and stayed when I was, kind of forced to join, in a band. I couldn't have asked for anyone better. For a sort of anniversary I gave her a little note asking her to meet me at the school fountain I confessed at. I didn't really think about it as breaking in but since it was night no one should really care.

I waited there for more than an hour. I told myself to just be patient but there's no reason for her not to have seen the letter. I sighed as I stared at the fountain, the handle was broken and the rust had finally set in. I left after another five minutes and arrived back at Kong Studios. As I passed by her open door I saw why she was taking so long.. There she was gripping the letter from earlier, she was probably just about to read it, while Murdoc was holding her hips to kiss her, she looked like she had given up trying to resist and just let it be.

I didn't say anything and just left again, heading into a small pharmacy for some more painkillers, to just drown out how I felt, or to just finally let myself go apesh*t. "Hello, how can I help you?" Said a female voice, I looked down at her. She was... Decent looking.. She wore these very thin rectangular sunglasses and had very ratty hair, she must have love the color red as her lips were drowned in lipstick and she wore a red tie over a black button up shirt. "I'm just here to buy fhese." I said as I set the painkillers on the counter for her to scan. "My name's 2D" I tried to introduce myself "Paula. Paula Cracker." She replied after scanning the pills and handing them back. She told me the price and I paid for it.

"Yeh, I'm in a band called Gorillaz." "I'm fhe singer" "Do yew play an instrument?" We had ended up talking just outside of the store and I told her about who I was, what I do, and I seemed to forget everything else that happened. "Would yew like to come check out Kong Studios?" I asked her, to which she shrugged and said "I might as well." And off we went.

We were too young to understand what we were getting into. The world seeming to work in a loop as Y/N had come back from somewhere and saw me there with Paula, except this time we noticed she was there. She wasn't angry, she didn't yell or cry, she just went to her room and left later that night. Not one word was spoken; because she understood.

Two years later and the world came crashing down. Paula had been found with Murdoc in the Bathrooms of Kong, it had left me broken thinking that it was just like what happened with Y/N, but Russel had Murdoc explain the situation a bit and I finally understood just what I had done. I let her go because I was silent. I had left to clear my head and I saw her there, sitting on a park bench playing with her black Melodica. A tune that I won't ever forget. I went and got a small bunch of flowers nearby and walked over to her. "2D?" She asked as I offered the flowers to her, her face lighting up instantly and her eyes starting to tear up. We never had to use words when together, we always knew what the other wanted to say. She jumped up and hugged me, staring at me for awhile until I told her "I missed yew."

It was everything I had ever hoped for.
And it all started with the Water Fountain.
