Chapter 9: y/n's past

Kayla pov

In my home me and the girls were watching a movie. Since we all were on vacation from work we decided to relax a bit. We were watching a movie about a boy doing bad deeds to help his mother live a better life.

"This reminds me so much of y/n." I speak to myself.

The one named squigly spoke up.

"What do you mean ms. l/n?" She says in a interested tone.

The other two turned their heads to look at me with interest as well. I turn back to the movie as my smile turns to a look of sadness.

"Y/n is always working hard to make sure that I live a happy and peaceful life. But at the same time he is killing himself." I say looking down.

This surprised the girls I can't blame them. Y/n doesn't like to share his past with anyone else except me. I take a deep breathe before I speak once more.

"You see y/n has a problem. One that he and I have known for sometime." I say.

"Then, what is it?  Y/n doesn't seem like the person to have any problems." Maria says.

"Yeah. That boy looks so healthy. What problem could he have to hide?" Samson says out of nowhere.

I want to keep it a secret for y/n. But he needs support. He has supported me all his life. He deserves to have friends who care for him. These people might be able to help.

"My son. His heart is. . . . Failing. His heart is slowing dying to the point it won't work anymore." This shock them greatly.

"Oh my." Filia says

"How does he have?" Leviathan asks with concern.

Tears form in my eyes. I remember when we first heard about it. I was devastated to hear that my son was dying. He wanted to live a long and adventurous life. But in the end he was cursed with it.

"Only a year from now." I speak with sorrow.

After saying this the atmosphere in the room became sad and dark. We turned off the tv and we went to our separate rooms for the night.

Y/n POV

In the underground room double began to speak once more.

"We are here y/n. Now let us begin your training." She says instructing me.

I stand ready. From there she starts by telling how the skullheart works.

"The skullheart is a relic. But it has the qualities of a parasite. Once it finds a host then it latches on and fuses with said host. From there it shall judge it based on what they have done in the past." She explains.

"It would seem that you have done a great deal of good deeds in your past y/n since your are. It corrupted by the skullheart's powers." She says impressed.

"Trust me when I say this double. I have nothing good. I've only hurt others for me and my mother's benefit. I don't know why you or the goddesses keep saying that I'm good and kind. I'm not." I say to her.

She nods as she then begins the lesson of manifesting the powers.

"Powers of the skullheart are mainly corrupt. so if you use it you must fight the corruption while you are using it in your fights. You fight two battles at once with this. So you must be careful and only use it when your life is in extreme danger." She alerts me.

Nodding my head she continues on with the lesson. With this knowledge I learned that the skullheart is not only a threat to those around me but to myself as well. But that doesn't matter.

"Now I want you to picture the shape that you want energy to manifest into. Any shape worthy of combat it can manifest into." She says.

I close my eyes to think of a form. What would best suit the powers of the skullheart? What would can I remember?

"The energy can only manifest to suit YOU y/n so what is a form you think best for yourself?" Double says.

Thinking deeper I begin to remember one thing about my past. Until an idea came to my mind. I chuckle a little bit because it was so obvious yet it fit so well.

Putting my thoughts forth I open my eyes to see the energy swirling around trying to take shape. My mind is a little foggy so my mind is still remembering the form of it.

"Come on, come on." I mutter to myself.

But as I was about to do it. A sharp pain flows to my mind. I begin to hear voices. They sound so familiar yet unfamiliar at the same time.

"Give in y/n."

"You can become so much more if you accept the dark."

"Don't you want to protect your mother?"

I clench my head in pain as I stop the process. Falling to my knees I hold my head as I begin to speak to double again.

"W-what happened? What were those voices?" I speak nervously.

"Those were the voices of the souls of the skullgirls before you. They are the corruption that the skullheart possesses. They went into your mind and tried to lure you with your desires and wishes." She clarifies.

"If the pain you experienced was that bad then the question remains. What happened in your past?" She questions.

I get up and I speak.

"I don't wanna talk about it. It's too much pain to even think about." I say.

I get up and head to the entrance to leave.

"Thank you double. This has been helpful, even if I didn't succeed." I thank her.

She smiles and she nods. We head up stairs back into the cathedral. I head outside and I walk home waving double goodnight.

Double POV

Watching y/n walk away I went back inside to be met by the Venus and Aeon.

"My goddesses. What brings you here at this hour?" I bow as I ask them.

"We wanted to check up on y/n. By the way things looked he didn't succeed. That's okay he can try again next time." Venus says.

"But he can't make any progress with the trauma he has. How will we help him?" I ask in concern.

"Do not worry double. I have an idea on how we can fix that." Aeon says as she begins to use her powers.

What is this idea that she has?
