"Looks like we'll be spending a lot of time with each other." He grins at me.
"Finally, someone I know." I breathe a sigh of relief.
I listen to Mrs. Callaghan talking in front, moving her hands while she talked; she was so animated. I enjoy theater arts so much because of the feeling of accomplishment. You spend hours, days, and weeks of practice for a one-time presentation, no redos, no take twos, just one take and that's that. You make it or break it, and that's what I love most. I love the hype you get, the hype from giving just 90% in practice but when you get on that stage, you give 101% to your performance. Theater arts is a beautiful thing.
"Like I said during last week's class, our theme for this school year is Greek. So, we will be doing a play based on the movie Helen of Troy. If some of you have not heard of this film, I suggest you watch it and think about who you would want to portray. I trust that all of you will choose a lead character, those who will act as Paris and Helen must audition. Are we clear?" She looks at us through her glasses and we all nod our heads.
"Aw, man. I love Helen of Troy. You think I could audition for Helen?" I look at Logan.
"You sure can, anyone confident enough to audition for the lead role, and become my leading lady, is most likely really talented enough to be the ever so beautiful Helen." He wiggles his eyebrows.
"HAHA, real cocky. So I'm guessing you're Paris?" I raise my eyebrow at him.
"Will be Paris. That is, if-and I will-be picked for the role when I audition."
"Confident." I scoff.
"We would not make technological advancements if it weren't for confidence, Diandra. There would not be any good movies if directors and actors were not confident enough to bring their ideas and talents to the table." He says.
"You like acting?"
"Why, yes, I do. It's what I do to keep myself out of school and out of trouble."
"So, wait. You're an actor?" I squint my eyes at him.
"Soon to be, I hope. I did a few commercials here and there, and a TV show as well, but it's nothing big. I really do hope I get accepted for that Percy Jackson movie." He plays with his thumbs and the bell rings.
All the students get up and we head to our next class which is General History. As we make our way amongst the crowd of students, we continue our conversation. "No way. You're going to be Percy Jackson?" I pause and grin. "Man, let me tell you something, I love those books." I adore those books so much, I've read it a few times over and over again.
"I'm hoping I'll get the part. You're making me all nervous, I feel like puking." He nervously chuckles and coughs.
"I hope you get it, Logan. And when you do, I hope I get free tickets to your first screening of that film!" We make it to our class and there are more eyes staring at me. I sit at the back with Logan.
"I'm all nervous now. I hate it when people stare." I whisper to Logan.
"Don't worry, it'll wear off. It's nothing. You're just a new face in Bev High, that's why they're all staring you down." He assures me and I exhale. "They won't eat you." He chuckles.
General History flew by quickly and it was finally lunch time. The cafeteria was crowded and I buy a tuna sandwich. "A lot of kids compared to my school." I say as we make our way to an empty table.
"Yeah? Was it just a small school?" Logan sits down and I do the same.
"Not really, but it was small enough that everyone knew me. I was part of the student executive council and captain of the volleyball team, so yeah." I shrug.
