Chapter 23: Back Home

Saturday 10:00am

I wake up to the smell of pancakes. I get up but pain shoots from my feet to my neck. I sit back down and put my hair up in a messy bun. I go downstairs, ignoring the pain in my body. I go into the kitchen and see Liam making pancakes. He turns around and notices that I'm here.

"Are you feeling better?" He asks while flipping a pancake.

"If better means an unbearable pain, then yes Liam, I'm better." I say, sarcastically. He laughs.

"I love how sarcastic you are even if you're in pain." He laughs. I smile, cause that's true. He finishes making the last pancakes. I go into the kitchen. I take out three plates, three cups, three forks, and three knives. I set the table. When I finish setting the table, Alfie walks into the kitchen. We all sit and eat in complete silence. We don't even look up from our food. When we finish we put the dishes in the sink. Liam washes the dishes and me and Alfie go into the living room. Alfie turns on the television. The news pops up on the screen. On the bottom right corner it says November 30. Tomorrow is the beginning of December, it's also my birthday. I just really want December to come, now that I have Liam I'll have a decent Christmas. I smile and go upstairs. When I get there I realize this isn't my house. I needed to check if my money was still in the box under my bed. I decide to change to go to my house. I put on a white oversized sweater, black leggings, my black vans, and a black beanie. I go back downstairs and Liam and Alfie are sitting on the couch watching American Horror Story.

"Can I go back home?" I ask Liam. He looks down at the ground and nods. I go up to him and hug him. Alfie just stares. I hate my house and Liam doesn't like it when I'm there but I have to go back. I go upstairs and pack my things. When I go downstairs Liam and Alfie aren't there anymore and the television is off. I hear there voices in the kitchen. I set my bags down. I walk into the kitchen and they stop talking. Alfie leaves and Liam opens his arms. I run into them. I feel bad for leaving but it's not like we'll never see each other again. He chuckles.

"Why am I so sad? I'm still going to see you." He says. I laugh because he just noticed that. I hug him tighter.

"But you're going to come for Christmas right?" He asks.

"Of course I am!" I shout. He laughs. We hug each other for what seems like a thousand years until Liam lets go.

"Let's go." He says his eyes now red and puffy. The thing about Liam is he cries silently. When he was little he cried silently all the time. I remember going over to him and comforting him. I would always end up sleeping on his bed and then he would kick me off his bed. I just laughed and went to my room. Now I can't comfort him he has to be strong and take care of himself. I go out the door and go to Alfie's car. I don't think Liam wants to see me leave because only Alfie comes out of the house. Alfie opens the car door and I get in. I miss Liam already. Alfie drives away and that the last thing I see is Liam running out of the house. My eyes start to fill with tears, I blink them away. I close my eyes for a few minutes, just as I'm about to go to sleep the car stops. I open my eyes and get out of the car. Alfie comes out and runs toward me. I reach my doorstep and he's right behind me. He stops and opens his arms. I put my bag down and hug him.

"I'll see you soon." Is all he says before letting go and running back to his car. I go back to the doorstep and pick up my bag. I go to the backward and climb the balcony to get to my room. I get inside and throw my bag on the ground. I throw myself on my bed. As much as I loved being at Liam's house, I missed my bed. I get up before falling asleep and go downstairs. The fist place I go is of course the kitchen. There's a note on the counter.

Jackie, we left on another trip for Christmas. Since you weren't here we couldn't take you. If you read this were already in Florida with the rest of the family.
