The day just seemed to drag on and on, Y/N was in her last class of the day, Chemistry. She sat in her seat, doodling in her notebook as her teacher kept talking about something she already understood. She drew on the margins of the paper, a heart. She began to draw an arrow through it, and she put 'Fulton' inside.
"Ms. Y/L/N? Do you need to stay after class?"
Her head shot up as she realized that her teacher had been trying to talk to her.
"No, ma'am."
The teacher turned back around to continue writing on the chalkboard. Y/N sighed of relief and continued to write notes from the board. When the bell rang, she sprung out of her seat with her backpack and raced out the door. She stopped at her locket to drop off any books that she didn't need until Monday. When she opened up the locker, the first thing that she saw was a picture of her mom. She smiled and reminisced, that picture was taken Christmas of '93. She passed away the following summer after a drunk driving accident.
That Christmas was one to remember, all on a sofa, Y/N's little sister was sitting on her mom's lap, her brother sat on dad's lap, and Y/N sat in front of the sofa with her Goldendoodle, Bunky. They all had on matching pajamas, they had just finished dinner, and were about to open their presents from 'Santa'. Y/N had finally gotten tickets to an Alice in Chains concert, she had been asking all year for them. Her sister got a bop it, and her brother got a Gameboy. They were all so excited for each other. They finished the night by making gingerbread and watching 'How the Grinch Stole Christmas' together.
She saw a hand close her locker, interrupting her daydream. She looked forward, seeing a grinning Connie.
"Hey! You ready for tonight?" she asked cheerfully.
Y/N was still surprised that Connie closed her locker, so she took a second to respond.
"Uh, yeah. Sorry, I was distracted and then you surprised me when you closed my locker." Y/N replied.
Connie chuckled,
"Oh, my bad. What were you thinking about?"
Y/N opened her locker back up and pointed to the picture.
"This picture was taken on Christmas night in 1993. This was such a fun night,"
Connie nodded, smiling.
"Aw, your family is so cute. What do your parents do?"
Y/N's smile slowly disappeared,
"Um, my dad's a real estate agent. And my mom... uh, she was a teacher. She died that summer."
Connie's face turned into a concerned expression,
"Oh, I'm sorry, Y/N. I had no idea."
Y/N shook her head with a light smile,
"No, don't apologize! It's okay, I promise."
She closed her locker and started to walk with Connie down the hall and out to the courtyard.
"So, how was the movie with Guy?"
Connie began to blush and smile,
"It was so much fun! We got some pizza beforehand, we were laughing all night long. He makes me feel safe and loved. Did you do anything fun last night?"
Y/N began to grin ear-to-ear, Connie noticed immediately.
"What? Oh my god, what did you do?"
"Fulton invited me to his dorm to study,"
"Ah! What else?"
"After we studied for a bit, we, um. We got high."
Connie's jaw hit the ground,
"Really, how?"
"He had a little baggie of pot in his drawer with a pipe, it was such a weird feeling. It felt nice, though."
"Well, it sounds interesting. I'm glad you had fun."
"There's more, he turned on his radio and my favorite Nirvana song came on. We started to dance by ourselves, then we came together to dance. I told him that I loved him and he told me that he loves me. Then, we kissed."
Connie began to hop up and down,
"What?! Y/N that's amazing! I'm so happy for you!"
Y/N nodded with the same ear-to-ear smile on her face,
"Thanks! It was so much fun. We went to get pizza after, we watched the sunset, and then we went back to his place so I could get my bag and go back to my room. I gave him one last kiss before I left. He called me this morning and invited me to get breakfast."
"Aw, you guys are so cute. After practice yesterday, he couldn't stop talking to Charlie about you. The whole team, actually, he really cares about you."The girls reached Connie's dorm building,
"I'll see you later! The game starts at 5 by the way," she said.
"Awesome! See you then!"
Y/N waved goodbye and continued on to her dorm. When she got to her room she set her bag down on her bed and took a look at her alarm clock, 3:30. She started to putz around her room, trying to keep herself occupied. She looked at her desk, again.
"Where's my candle?" she mumbled to herself.
A lightbulb went off in her head, she remembered she left it at Fulton's. She went out the door, down the hall, and stopped in front of his door. She knocked three times, the door opened. Fulton stood in the doorway, with a snack-sized bag of Lays in his right hand, and held the doorknob with his left. He smiled,
"Hey, what's up?" He asked.
Y/N smiled back to him,
"Hi, um, I think I left my candle here yesterday, do you still have it?"
"Oh, um, yeah I do,"
Y/N looked over his shoulder to see it burning on his desk, she chuckled.
"I hope you don't mind, I don't have anything else to make my room smell nice."
"No, it's okay. You can keep it, actually."
"Thanks, you wanna come in for a bit?"
"Uh, sure!"
She stepped into his room and he shut the door. He sat in the loveseat by his bed and Y/N sat crisscrossed on his bed.
"How's your day so far?" He asked while putting a chip into his mouth.
"It's been pretty good, better now that I get to see you again. Thanks for breakfast this morning, by the way," she replied.
"Of course, I had a great time."
She smiled,
"Me, too. What time do you have to leave for your game?" she asked.
Fulton took a look at his wall clock,
"Um, ooh, soon actually. The game's at 5, warmups are at 4:30. I still gotta get my stuff ready and put it on at the arena."
He got up and started to pack his duffel bag, Y/N stood up.
"Okay, I'll get out of your way then."
She started to make her way to his door, but he stopped her.
"You don't have to leave, we can go together. Can you go into my closet and get my pads real quick?" he asked.
"Yeah,"
She went into his closet and started to search for his pads, she stumbled around boxes and clothes that needed to be washed. She found his pads under a pile of wrinkled shirts.
"Here, Fulton."
She came out of his closet and handed the pads to him. He pinched her red cheeks and smiled,
"Thank you,"
He zipped his bag up, put it on his shoulder, put on a black bandana, and held out his hand.
"You ready?" he asked.
Y/N accepted his hand and laced their fingers together,
"I am. Let's get going."
They walked out of his room, he closed his door. They walked out of the building and walked to the bus stop. The bus pulled up and they got on, sitting next to each other.
"I'm so excited! I don't think I've ever seen a hockey game before."
