A Year Ago: Meeting You

Baguio City, Philippines. The busy street of Session road was full packed with people around 5:00pm. At this time, everyone from the offices and students from different schools were all in a hurry going either to their homes or to SM baguio. Everyone, but her.

She was cruising at this popular street, enjoying the cold breeze with a cup of coffee on her right hand. It was mid February of 2019 so the weather was chilly in the City of Pines. Almost everyone would look at Son Ye Jin, not only because she looked gorgeous, but also because of how she dressed. People in the city were all covered with thick jackets, pants and binnies to cope with 10 degrees, but Yejin was so comfortable wearing white longsleeves paired with white shorts and a simple black shades to give her a tiny disguise. She was so used to colder temperatures in Seoul. With boys and girls looking at her every now and then, she could just smile and laugh silently.

Yejin was just happy that she finally had another holiday in a foreign land after working for the last couple of months. She needed this. She has to breathe, have a "me time" and be more independent. She wanted to be in a place where she is less known. She choose the Philippines this time because she heard a lot of good stuff about this country (well apart from traffic). She was intrigued by their culture and she wants to feel their hospitality.

Her feet led her to a small cafe in Session Road, Tea House. From what she can see, they have a variety of pastry products. "Oh my.... Everything looks good!" she thought. She asked one of the crews about their bestseller and was told it was the "Chona's delight". She patiently waited in the queue, she was not annoyed like the other customers because back in Seoul, she never lines up in a restaurant since someone does it for her. She basically was enjoying the queue, and finally it was her turn...

"Why is it so yummy?!!", she happily said while eating Chona's delight. It was a soft chocolate cake with other distinct flavors, full of calories. "I can always go to the gym to shed off those calories." That's her plan when she goes back to Korea, to lose all the weight that she'll be gaining after her holiday. She was busy scooping her sweet dessert and was about to take the last spoonful, when someone accidentally pushed her from the back. "What the....." Fortunately, the spoonful of cake missed staining her beautiful face, but it did paint her white polo....big time. "Miss I'm sorry!" She heard a man's voice apologizing. She turned around to see the face of the culprit. And there he was, a handsome tall
guy, with a soft-looking hair, two deep dimples and broad shoulders. She was almost at awe seeing his features but snapped it as quick as she can because this same man ruined her dessert and her attire. She was about to answer him when he continued talking. "Miss, I'd love to make amends with you but I really need to go. If there's anything I could do, please call me!" And then he disappeared from her sight leaving his calling card to her. "That jerk! Call him? Where did the hospitality in this city go?" She looked down and read what was written on the card. "Dr. Hyun Bin, Emergency Department". " You better be saving lives Doctor Bin!" she angrily thought.

And that's how their paths met...
