The Dinner Table

"I have some great news" Amelia Hamilton announced to the table "Nick and I will be gone from Tomorrow until Tuesday, we are spending some time together in New York." She smiled at Charlotte and Cole waiting for their reaction "oh and the kids will be at their grandparents, so you have a long weekend to yourselves" she added as an afterthought, clearly forgetting that was the actual good news for them.

Cole frowned at Amelia but recovered quickly turning to grin at Charlotte as he served her meal "a whole weekend to ourselves here, whatever will we do?" He smirked cheekily and earned a glare from Nick.

"A long weekend away sounds lovely" charlotte said quietly, glancing at Nick who looked as uncomfortable as the rest of the table at the suggestion. She returned to her food as Cole brought out some more bread and sat down next to her. "Well yes, we are in need of some alone time I can't wait" Amelia smiled back looking between Cole and Charlotte curiously, then remembering herself and turning to her husband to ask a question.

Whilst the couple talked Cole took the opportunity to lean into Charlotte "what would you like to do this weekend Charlotte?" He teased with a wicked glint in his eye.

Not one to be outdone Charlotte decided this was another opportunity to put him off balance and do a little teasing of her own. "Well I thought we would start with you, me and some oysters and champagne in the hot tub, followed by some heavy petting in the pool and then a whole lot of time in bed, which of our beds I can't decide though, what do you think?" She joked, but the joke fell flat as Cole gulped and turned a light shade of pink at her suggestions.

His voice hoarse, he simply replied "my bed" and hit her with an intense gaze that made her mouth dry up, unable to provide a further witty response. "Cole" Amelia interrupted their stare down "which wines should we ship out from the cellar for our weekend? We will need to pair them with our meals of course. I have a menu...." Amelia's words faded into the background as Cole boldly moved his hand up Charlottes leg. She glanced at him but he was focussed on Amelia's question, how could he be so calm as his hand moved further up?!

"Are you feeling ok? You look a little flushed" Nick commented looking into her eyes. "Oh I'm fine thank you, just thinking about what I can do with my days off" Charlotte replied weakly.

"Mmmhmm" Nick hummed in response, looking unconvinced. He looked to the doorway then back at her, seemingly unsure of what to say next he suddenly blurted "don't make plans with Cole while I'm gone".

Charlotte looked at him, confused "why?" She questioned, honestly trying to understand why Nick would say such a thing. "He isn't who he seems, I've learnt that over the past few weeks" nick responded quietly, looking a little guilty to be sharing this information with her. "I've noticed you two are.. close... and I just wanted you to be careful..." he trailed off, unsure what to say next.

Charlotte processed this information, Cole had been nothing but open with her and seemed genuine in his feelings for her so far, but why would Nick say something like that if he didn't have reason? It couldn't be petty jealousy surely? Nick had nothing to be jealous of. "Ok I will be here with Cole but I won't spend all my time with him, I have plenty I can be getting on with without him" she responded slowly. The response seemed to placate Nick and his shoulders released some tension as he sat back in his chair. "Good" he simply replied before he stood up and looked towards his wife returning through the door.

What a curious request and baffling response. Charlotte looked between the man who had made her come just moments ago and the man that seemed concerned for her around him as they chatted like old friends. She cleared her head and stood up to join the conversation, she'd have to come back to it later on.

A/N did that happen a bit fast? I wasn't sure how to build to it so I just jumped right in!
