The Unsolved Mystery

Akshay:

I was worried about the cases and reached home tired.

"Dinner?" Netra asked.

"Not hungry," I said thinking something.

"Are you fine?" Netra asked.

"No. I am not fine, Netra," I said.

Netra looked at me in shock.

"You know what? The most irritating thing is to act love with the person we love," I said.

"What?"

"Yes, from the day Sadhana left, I am not really happy with you. When you are caring for me or if I am caring for you, I feel it so artificial. Let's stay away from each other," I said.

"Akshay, what happened to you all of a sudden?" Netra asked me.

"Today I saw Sadhana on the way. I couldn't stop myself and tried to talk to her. Do you know what she asked me?"

"What?"

I remembered the incident.

"Sadhana," I called her and she turned towards me. I can see affection and happiness in her eyes, but in the next moment it changed completely.

"Who are you?" Sadhana said.

"Don't you know who am I? Damn it. I am your brother," I said.

Sadhana gave a emotionless smile.

"Brother? Do you really know what a brother does? Do you know why do we celebrate Rakshabandhan? A sister ties Rakhi to her brother wishing him all the success and praying to the God that this Raksha saves her brother forever. And the brother promises her that he will protect her dignity and self respect forever no matter what happens. Did you do that?

You stayed silent when your wife questioned the brought up of mom. What if someone questions the way your mom raised you up? Are you going to stay silent? No way.

It's okay for you if your wife accuses my character. It's fine if she questions my mom brought up. So, how can you assume yourself as a brother?

I can't forgive you and forget the incident in my life. Earlier I used to feel happy when we talk or meet, but now I hate you. Please stop bothering me. Don't contact me. If you try to contact me again, you will see me dead. You know about me well. So, stay away from me," Sadhana said and left me.

I told everything and looked at Netra.

"I failed as a brother. I killed her self respect for you. I know you are wrong that day, but just because I don't want to hurt you, I hurt her."

I said and Netra left to our room without talking to me. Netra didn't speak anything about it and I too didn't take the topic again.

After a few days, I went to meet Vikranth without informing Netra. Vikranth opened the door, but was quite seeing me at his home.

"Hello Vikranth, can you talk to me for a few minutes?" I said to him.

"Please, come in, Akshay," Vikranth said.

I went inside the house and sat on the sofa. For first few minutes, I stayed silent.

"Akshay, tell me what you want to talk," Vikranth asked me.

I smiled looking at the photo frame. It has the childhood photo of Netra and Vikranth.

"I think you love your sister a lot," I said .

Vikranth closed his eyes than answering me. I went near to him and kept my hand his shoulder.

"Vikranth, this society has nothing to do with our lives. This society or the people didn't save Netra when she was forced brutally in the whore house. This society didn't question Jeevith or his mother when they abandoned her without her mistake. And now if they blame her for making a choice of her life partner, I don't think we should mind it.

Vikranth, this is our life. We have every damn right to make our life happier and design it as we want. Those who blame us never matter to us because they don't know what we are going through and then don't help us to overcome our problems.

If you love your sister, understand the reason behind her choice and support her happiness. If you still think Netra is wrong in choosing me over Jeevith, then give her the reason for your opinion.

I don't want you to stay away from your sister, just because she chose me," I said and left to my office, giving time to Vikranth.

In the office, I checked the reports of those students who were admitted in the hospitals all of a sudden with unknown reason. The doctors are still trying to find out the cause, but the percentage of deaths increased day by day and patients too.

The Prime Minister called for the urgent Cabinet meeting to discuss this case. Everything is blank for everyone because there's no clue what's happening to these students.

The meeting is silent as everyone are worried about the students. The police department started the enquiry in the colleges and investigated friends, family, close associates, faculty, and relatives, but they could find no clue.

The Central Government ordered all colleges to remain closed until the case gets solved. The future of the students became uncertain due to this sudden deaths.

I returned home and Netra served dinner to me. I didn't even feel to eat the dinner due to this case. Netra observed me and patted on my hand.

"It's okay, Akshay. I understand but I am sure you will find a way to solve this mystery," I said.

"No hope, Netra. We are trying all the ways to know the truth, but couldn't find even a small clue," I said washing my hand without having the food.

At night, while I was talking to the police on a video conference, Netra showed me a news on a website about a drug which shows the similar effects faced by these students. I have read the news and then forwarded it to the doctors and the police to find out the details. As per my knowledge, that drug is not available in India and is banned in many nations. It's not that easy to smuggle that drug in this major quantity throughout the nation. I suspected the hands of the well known and powerful people in this case.
