Once Jake said those words, my smile fell.

"W-what?" I dropped my hands from his and turned away from him

"Dani, look. I said it before and I'll say it again; Marcus is-"

"Bad news, I get it." I interrupted Jake, my voice firm

There was a silence between us and I looked at him

"What did Marcus ever do to you?" I asked

Jake closed his eyes, and breathed in and out, "He played my sister. Bad."

I looked at him, shocked, "You have a sister?"

"She's moved out. She was a bit of a trouble maker." Jake smiled sadly, looking at his hands

"Wow." I slumped back in my seat

"I'm sorry. I didn't know." I said to Jake

"S'okay." He shrugged, "I just don't wanna see you hurt."

I leaned over and kissed him on the cheek, his face bursting into flames

"You're so sweet. But you have to understand that Marcus is competing for me too. I don't like how I feel like I'm a prize. I'm just in the middle of this whole thing and it's difficult and confusing. I guess, I just need some space, at the moment." I confessed

"If space is what you need, I'll give it to you." Jake smiled

"Thanks Jake. Uh, do you wanna maybe... Come over for a movie tonight?" I asked, twirling my thumbs

He smiled wide, "I'd love to."

"Cool." I opened the door, and got out, "See you at 7?"

"Wait." Jake said before I walked into my house

"Yeah?" I stopped

He smiled wide, "You should come over tonight and have dinner with my family and I. Then we can hang out and have movie night."

I smiled back, "I'd love that."

We said our goodbyes as I walked on my lawn and into my house.

Once inside, I hurried into my room and started looking through my closet.

What the hell am I gonna wear?

After 45 minutes of rummaging through my closet and creating mountains of clothes in my room, I finally found an outfit.

I put on a scalloped lace tank, light pink skinny jeans, and oxfords with cut out diamonds.

I moussed my curls, making them shiny and defined and swept on mascara and some eyeliner.

I looked at the clock, reading that it was 6:45.

15 minutes to spare.

I ran into the bathroom, brushing my teeth and gargling almost a gallon of Listerine. (Yes, I'm crazy about my oral hygiene.)

I took one last look in the mirror, excited for tonight.

As I headed to the door, it opened slightly, my dad coming through.

"Hey kiddo, where to?" he smiled

I gave him a kiss on the cheek, "Jakes for a movie and dinner."

"Ooo. Anything between you two I should know?" My dad questioned

I laughed, "Not at the moment, no. But I'll be back. Love you." I kissed him on the cheek, closed the door behind me, and headed over to his house

But before I could leave my lawn, I saw Jake kissing someone in the driveway.

That someone was Tara.

I stood there, and without thinking, I called out his name.

He broke apart from her, looking at me.

"Dani...its-its not what it looks like." He pulled away from Tara, who had the biggest sneer on her face.

"It's exactly what it looks like Jake. Goodbye." I said, my voice firm.

I wasn't about to stand here and be humilated for Taras amusement.

I went in my car and steered out of the driveway as Jake tried to run up to my car window.

"Dani, please!" He pleaded

I lowered down the window, looking straight at him.

"Move or I'll run you over." I spoke through my teeth.

"You won't." He said, unmoving.

I accelerated the gas alittle, nearly running over his foot. Jake jumped away, his eyes wide and scared.

I revved up my car, and began to speed away from my house, the view of Jake getting smaller and smaller.

I sped all the way till I was where I think I was supposed to be this whole time:

with Marcus.

"So you pick me?" Marcus said, shocked

I nodded, "Yeah. Jake...he's just a jerk. I'm better off without him."

Marcus smiled wide, and his arms were instantly around me, pulling me against him.

"I won't hurt you Dani. I promise." He said into my hair

I wrapped my arms around his neck, pulling our faces closer to eachothers. His smile turned into a smirk, as he pressed his lips against mine.

"I'm so glad to call you mine. Come inside? I ordered pizza and we can watch Boy Meets World!" he said it like he won the lottery

"I'd love to." I smiled back, lacing my fingers with his.

After a couple episodes and some slices of pinneapple pizza, I was beginning to grow tired.

I leaned into Marcus who put his arm over me, pulling me closer to him. I looked up and gave him a small smile.

"You made me the happiest guy today, you know that?" He kissed my forehead

I simply nodded and then brought my lips to his.

We broke apart, a smile on his face. As he turned to watch tv, I frowned slightly.

In the pit of my stomach, I knew something wasn't right.
