"Jess, are you ok? I got hit a couple of times. God dam-" Instead of a reply, Jesse's arms went...
Limp.

"Jess?!" As I turned around to face him, his body relaxed and leaned backwards quickly. Despite the searing pain that was spread all throughout my body, I managed to grab onto him and keep him steady on the horse. I leaned him forwards, so he would not fall, and slowly made my painful dismount off of the roan gelding.
Once I had both feet planted in the dirt, I slowly eased him off the horse. Well, at least I tried to. His body weight made it difficult to support him. Especially when I'm as weak and wounded as I am.
We both fell to the ground. "Augh!!" Pain, was all I could feel. Pure pain. I pushed those thoughts aside and scrambled over to Jesse.
"Jess!? Hey look at me, look me in the eyes." I grabbed both sides of his face with my hands. His tired eyes met mine. "Jess what's wrong what's-" that's when I saw it. Large bullet hole..
Straight through his heart.

"No! Please god no! Jess it's okay! We'll make it. Yeah! We will ride into the nearest town an.. and.." I started to choke up. Jesse grabbed my bloody hands with his equally bloodied ones.
"Hey..Case. Look at me." I averted my eyes from his chest and looked into his. "We both know I'm not going to make it."
" No! We can.. there has to be a doctor in town I-" I tried to reason. "Casey! Look at yourself. You're dying. You have to go. You have to leave me. I already see the color draining from your face.Case, I didn't stay with you for so long for nothing. I didn't do it for shits and giggles." I sadly chuckled and sniffed my nose.
"I did it because I care about you. I care for Tommy. Hell, even Colt." I once again chuckled. "Please. Leave me. You're dying. I can't be saved. Go. You know what you need to do."
I looked into his eyes one last time. The life quickly fading. Hell, I can't imagine that I looked much better. "Okay." Let out a sob, " I love ya Jess." He simply nodded his head. Unable to form words. My eyes fell upon his chest. Or should I say his necklace.
Jesse's sole purpose in life was to find his long lost lover. Julia Roberts. A small, petite redheaded girl. They were separated after the army invaded our base. Tried to take us all in. Julia got away, but we would be the ones to be hauled in. We eventually escaped.
"Take it." Jesse croaked. The necklace was meant to be a newlywed gift for Julia. He had planned on giving it to her once they were reunited. I slipped my hands around to the back of his neck and undid the necklace. Only then did I realize that I was slowly getting more and more dizzy. I have to leave soon if I hope to ever see my family again.
"I'm dying. I have to go. I'll never forget you. I promise. Pals. For life. Even in death. I'll see you again one day.. pal" I choked. Jesse's eyes shone with satisfaction. "Tell her...I love her. And...I ..love...you."
No longer did I see Jesse's chocolate brown eyes. A tear slipped from my eye. I let it stay there. He deserves to be grieved.
I pulled myself away from him and made my way over to the gelding. "Good boy." I reassured him. I painfully swung my body in the saddle and urged the gelding forwards. No looking back. I clutched the necklace in my hand. I then proceeded to stuff it in my bra. Good. Now it's safe.
The gelding took off towards civilization. I began to see black crowding my vision. I have to live. I have to survive. I can't die now. I'd loose to much. I noticed and rope hanging on the side of the saddle. I took the rope and tied my waist to the saddle horn. I knew I was gonna black out soon.
With one last urge to the gelding to pick up speed, slowly but surely,....
All I could see...was..black.
