I limped my way down the upstairs hallway. I peaked into each door as I walked. Bedroom....another bedroom...ah! Washroom! Found ya. On my left was a small washroom. I walked inside and shut the wooden door behind me.
Inside the washroom was a small mirror mounted on the wall, along with a bowl and rag for washing up, and a tub in the far corner of the room. Not too shabby.
I gazed at my reflection in the small mirror. Damn, I'm a mess. This won't do. My raven hair was in knots, my face stained with blood, dirt, and a few tear stains.
I begun untangling my hair with my fingers. Once my hair looked acceptable, I dipped the light brown rag into the warm water and started to wash my face and neck. There. I look like a normal human again. Wash off the pain of yesterday, a fresh canvas.
With one last glance at my reflection, looking much better than before if I do say so myself, I opened the wooden door and began to limp back down the hallway. I opened up my room door, and went to retrieve my pistol from the dresser. You never know. They might be cannibals. I internally laughed at myself.
I opened up the chamber, just to make sure I had some ammunition in there. All full up. Good. I holstered my pistol, and exited the room. I approached the stairs. God damnit. This is gonna hurt like a son of a—
My thoughts were abruptly interrupted when I heard the sound of footsteps from behind me. I quickly spun on my heel and drew my pistol.
" Woah! Woah, easy there miss! Would you like some help? I promise, I don't bite." The blond man lightly chuckled while he had his hands raised to his head level. I slowly holstered my pistol, and the man lowered his hands.
"Where are my manners? Hello miss, I'm Doc. Doc Scurlock. It's a pleasure." He reached his hand out for mine. I placed my gentle hand in his rough one. He brought my hand to his mouth and gently kissed it. He let go and my hand fell to my side.
"Casey." I replied and gave him a light smile. "Casey." He repeated with a little smile. "Now, would you like some help? It must be painful." I thought for a second, before answering. What harm could it do? "That would be much appreciated Mr. Scurlock." I replied with a smile. "Please, just call me Doc." "Of course." I replied.
He put his right arm under my left arm, and reached his hand to the other side of my body. I put some of my weight on his arm and body. We made our way down the steps.
"Mrs McSween!" Doc called out from the middle of the stairs. "Yes Doc?" She called back from the kitchen sink. At this point we were at the bottom of the stairs. Mrs McSween turned to us. "Well isn't this delightful! You look much better dear." She rushed to us and took me from Doc.
"Thank you Doc I will take it from here." She said to him and gave him a smile. He lightly smiled and nodded his head. Mrs. McSween helped me to the table that was in the middle of the kitchen.
"You must be starved dear. Dinner is nearly ready." She said as she walked back to prepare the food. "It has been a few good days since I've had a proper meal." I replied. Doc took a seat beside me. "Well, we'll fix that right up won't we?" She glanced at me over her shoulder and gave me a smile. I smiled back.
"Oh! I never did catch your name dear!" She said as she added a spice to a bowl. "Casey, ma'am." I replied. "Beautiful name for a beautiful young woman!" I lightly blushed and looked down. "Indeed." Doc replied.
"Oh, Doc?"Mrs McSween asked. "Yes?" He replied. "Once you have finished you breakfast, Mr. Tunstall is outside preparing the wagon. He wants you to accompany him to town." "That sounds alright. Thank you Mrs McSween." "It's not a problem dear." She said as she laid down two bowls of delicious looking soup in-front of us.
I hesitantly picked up my spoon and glanced up at Doc. He nodded his head with a light smile. "We can skip saying grace for now. I'm to darned famished." He and I chuckled, and began to devour Mrs McSween's soup. "It's delicious. Thank you." I complimented her. "Glad to hear it. Don't be shy to ask for seconds. I have plenty more." She smiled.
This seems too good to be true. I should stay cautious. Cautious and collected. Prepared for anything. Just right after I finish my seconds.AUTHOR'S NOTE PLEASE READ
