"Do you guys know what time we are supposed to meet at Ruby's house tonight?" Jamal ask as him, Olivia, and I walk to first period together.

"Right after school, I think. We're all supposed to walk to his house after school together" Olivia reminds us as Jamal nods his head at her.

"I'm so ready for tonight, we've all been too busy lately."

"Yea, you're right. Especially after Cesar joined the Santos, we haven't really gotten a chance to hang out together" I frown and agree.

"True. Oh, guess what-" Olivia starts but gets interrupted by Jamal cutting her off and standing in front of us with wide eyes, "Yea hold that thought, let's go the other way" Jamal says trying to turn us around.

"What? Why?" I question confused as Olivia and I get out of Jamal's grasp.

"Just trust me" Jamal says as he tries to get us to walk the other way.

"But then we'll be taking the long way to class." Olivia huffs annoyed.

"Yea come on Jamal. Why can't we take this way" I narrow my eyes at his abnormal behavior. I'm used to his weirdness, but I honestly don't know why he's acting like this right now.

He lets out a frustrated sigh, "Why can't you guys ever listen," he mumbles, rubbing his forehead, "We can't go that way because look. Latrelle. He's over there and he's a prophet!" he raises his voice and points down the hall.

"Okay? So what? This school has a bunch of gang members" I shrug, not seeing the problem.

"Because, we're friends with Cesar. That automatically makes us affiliated with the Santos and it's a known fact that the Prophets and Santos don't get along." he explains in a duh tone as if it were obvious.

"Again, so what? We've always been friends with Cesar and we've never had any major problems before. I know Latrelle is 'dangerous' or whatever, but he's not stupid. He isn't going to start something in the middle of the hallway at school" I cross my arms.

"Exactly, plus I'm not going to be late to class just because Latrelle is in our way" Olivia agrees with me.

"Fine, whatever" Jamal sighs as he reluctantly walks down the hallway with us.

We were already almost down the hall, still talking about our plans for tonight, but abruptly stop in our tracks as Latrelle steps in front of us.

The three of us share a look, Jamal quietly whispers to me, "See, this is why you should've trusted me, Rue" he says in a taunting playful way since he was right about Latrelle.

I make a sour face at Jamal while Latrelle starts to talk, "Aye, what are you whispering about?" he steps closer to Jamal.

Jamal shakes his head and raises his hands up in surrender.

"Nothing, do you need something?" I step in front of Jamal to block him from Latrelle.

"Mhm, that's what I thought," he pauses and looks at me up and down, "I heard your little friend, Cesar, became a Santo" he dryly laughs. "Where is his bitch ass? Huh? I bet he thinks he's a gangster now", he raises his eyebrow, "Nah, he's too much of a pussy for that" he shakes his head and laughs. "Hold up, aren't you his girl?" he smirks while looking at Olivia.

I look over at Olivia and see her blush, twirl her hair, and nod her head slowly at Latrelle.

I roll my eyes; this conversation isn't going anywhere and is just wasting our time.

"Are we done here?" I snap at Latrelle gaining his attention back at me and away from Olivia.

He looks surprised but just scoffs, "Who do you think you're talking to, Rue?"
