Lea returned home with cold sweat dripping down her forehead, and a need for a glass of water. She checked the time in case anyone was still sleeping, it was nine thirty and the curtains were open now. Lea turned the handle and opened the door. The fresh smell of waffles and orange juice hit her like a ton of bricks, but instead of hurting, it soothed her. The painful pull towards the forest lost it's grasp on her and everything was better.
She slung of her trainers and meandered into the kitchen, Marietta and Nolan were busy bustling around with breakfast whilst Ria looked nearly half asleep at the table. As she sat down all eyes turned to her in excitement: Ria jolted awake, Marietta gave her a kiss on the head whilst Nolan was gifting a beaming smile towards her. Balloons were tucked away in corners, presumably they had attempted to hide them but hadn't done a great job. As you probably have guessed, this is all because of one thing: Lea's Birthday.
Yes, its her birthday, she wants you to get over it. Although she does appreciate and enjoy the gifts and special treats (like everyone else), birthday's have never seemed right. She always felt that each year, on her birthday, something would happen or... click. As if she would finally feel complete or true to herself. Although she knew it would never happen, she always hoped that one birthday her mother would walk in the door, her real mother (or parent). It never happened.
'Oop s
D to"HAPPY BIRTHDAY!" they bursted out, a look of surprise and awe spread across Lea's face. Honestly, she was astonished that they had been able to transform the kitchen so fast. From their cozy dining area to a art and beautiful display of colours. Lea felt pure. On joy, as the distractions of her family eased her mind from the constant torture of her thoughts.
"Oh... mY...gOsH" said Lea, not expecting it in the slightest. "We just wanted you to really enjoy being sixteen, it's is your big birthday!" added Ria, whilst she buzzed with ok excitement, "We know that you are not keen on birthdays but this one is very special... it's test day!" Bursted Ria, a feeling of discomfort rolled through Lea like a carpet of gloom, "Aren't you excited, we get to discover our powers!". Although she knew that she was partly lying, she responded anyway, " Yeah... it's going to be... interesting!", confusion wafted over everyone. Interesting, REALLY! Julia quickly changed the subject before a question was asked, "Wow, these waffles look really yummy!" YUMMY, who are you. "Yeah...they do..." added Ria, obviously catching the notion that Lea did not want to talk about it in front of 'the parents'.
Time passed as they all tucked into their waffles and orange juice, each bit satisfying the tastebuds of everyone. The tension of the last question easing of. Once all plates were empty and hunger satisfied, Marietta and Nolan selected a rather large squishy gift from the top of the pile. "Ok Lea" said Marietta, "here is your first gift of today, I hope you like it...". Lea carefully separated the cello tape from the paper, being careful not to rip it, and unveiled a pair of leather, black boots. Lea gasped with delight, somehow the boots managed to sum up her style in one piece of clothing: practical but still trying to be something . "You and Ria can go and get dressed into some presentable clothes then you can open the rest of your presents. Remember today is the day you unlock your inner powers, so do put effort into this." Marietta said with a stern but jokey sort of tone.Lea and Ria rushed upstairs, one more eager to be finished getting ready than the other. After both having warm, steamy showers, they both picked out clothing for their wardrobes, trying to compile a good outfit. Obviously, being good at fashion, Ria had effortlessly created a stunning outfit, accessories and all. It consisted of: a pair of dark denim, loose jeans; a tight, bikini strap, lilac crop top; gold hooped earnings, along with a smaller hoop for her nose; a white and blue bandana, to go with her blonde hair; an oversized, vintage denim jacket; and a pair of white sneakers. She looked stunning. All of her outfit complimented the crisp, delicate essence of her features. Lea compiled her own outfit. Considering it was August and very hot outside, she wore a pair of oversized, ripped denim shorts that hung to her knees; A white t-shirt, with a small pocket; an oversized flannel, with a cool print; and her brand new boots. She also let a section her wavy hair sit in two half done braids letting the rest flow down by her side, she put her chain necklace on and put some earrings in. Judging by the long stare at her whilst she was distracted, Ría was obviously judging her style immensely. They were ready for the day ahead.
