"Are you really leaving Virge?"
Virgil stopped packing and looked over at his younger brother. His younger brother who had done nothing but care for him for the past 3 years. His younger brother who deserved everything but the cruel hand life had dealt him. His younger brother who, through Virgil's inability to protect him, now had a broken arm. Virgil smiled sadly.
"I have to Rem. I don't belong here anymore."
Remy saw his brother's eyes flick towards his arm and then back to his face. "Don't blame yourself for it." He muttered. "It was my fault, Virge. I was too busy looking for Emile to notice the guy beside me."
Virgil laughed slightly. "I'm going to miss you, Rem." He muttered, closing his bag and hitching it onto his back.
"I'll miss you too, Virge."
"I'll come back for you, I promise." Virgil said, kissing his brother's forehead and leaving his caravan for the last time.
"Heya Virgil."
Virgil looked up. Roman was sitting in a tree, his face thrown into harsh light by the moon. He lept down and walked towards Virgil.
"Where're you going at this late hour?"
Virgil rolled his eyes, ignoring how cute Roman's bed head looked. "That's none of your concern Princey."
"I think it is very much my concern if I don't see you again." Roman breathed, his voice still sounding loud in the near silent field.
"Why should you care if you never see me again?" Roman didn't answer and Virgil smirked. "Aw, do you care for me Princey?"
Suddenly, Roman grabbed Virgil's hand and started running, pulling Virgil with him.
"Princey! Princey, where are we going?!"
Roman ignored Virgil's yells and dragged him all the way into a forest and then into a clearing.
"Okay, we're in a forest." Virgil said, trying to catch his breath. "Why bother dragging me into a forest?"
"You do know how to dance, right?"
Virgil looked up, confused. "Yes... I mean, I can dance to some extent."
"Then dance with me."
Virgil's breath caught slightly. "What?"
"I asked you," Roman said, moving Virgil's hands to his shoulders, "to dance with me. Will you?"
Virgil was about to refuse but then thought, "I'm never going to see Princey again if I leave the circus. I suppose one dance wouldn't hurt."
"Fine. I'll dance."
Roman's face lit up in the pale light of the moon and he carefully put his hand on Virgil's waist and started spinning Virgil around. Virgil laughed and focused on his footwork so he avoided stepping on Roman's foot.
"Princey, don't you dare dip me." Virgil warned. Roman didn't listen and dipped Virgil anyway. When Virgil's face was level with Roman's again, it was pink and furious. "What did I just tell you?" He growled.
Roman laughed slightly and stopped dancing. "What're you going to do Virgil?" He asked, laughing even more.
"I'm gonna find a way to shut you up." Virgil mumbled.
"Really? How're you going to do tha-" Roman was cut off by Virgil pressing his lips to Roman's. The kiss didn't give Roman any time to react and Virgil had pulled away before Roman could even process what was happening.
"Tada. I've shut you up." Virgil said, laughing.
"What're you laughing at?"
"Your face! You're bright pink!" Virgil exclaimed, laughing even more. Roman rolled his eyes and put his arms around Virgil's shoulders, leaning his forehead against Virgil's.
"That's called being a hypocrite, Virgil." Roman muttered, a smirk playing across his face. "You're face is just as red as mine." And before Virgil could stutter out a sentence, Roman closed the gap between them and kissed him. Virgil smiled and melted into the kiss.
When he pulled back, Roman was as red as he had claimed Virgil was. Virgil in question was breathless and his eyes were shining. Simultaneously, they looked over to Virgil's discarded bag.
"Do you have to go?"
"Do you have to stay?"
They both knew it was the same answer but neither of them wanted to say goodbye. Virgil sighed and crossed over to his bag, hitching it back onto his back.
"I need to go. This place doesn't feel like home anymore."
"Will you come back?"
Virgil didn't have an answer to this. He'd promised Remy he'd come back for him but with Roman it was different. Virgil knew Roman was happy at the circus. He didn't want to tether Roman to a life he would be unhappy with. Eventually, Virgil just shrugged.
"We'll see." He said before giving Roman a kiss on the cheek and disappearing into the night.
