The Circus isn't a Love Story (COMPLETED)

Chapter 1

"Um, excuse me?" Roman asked, tapping a man with curly hair on the back. "Do you know where I can find the ringmaster?"

"Well, that'd be me kiddo." The man said, turning around and beaming at Roman. "P. M Wonderment, what can I do you for?"

"Oh, um, I'm Roman and I was hoping to join the circus?" Roman mentally face-palmed at himself. Why was he so intimidated by this man?

"Okay. What's your act?"

"Huh?"

"What's your act? What are you going to bring to the show that would make me want to hire you?"

"Oh, oh! Well, I, um, I-"

"Roman?! Roman!!" A voice yelled, the owner running up to Roman and hugging him tightly.

"Remus, put Roman down." Patton said calmly. Remus did so, grinning.

"What're you doing here?"

"I was hoping to get a job here."

"Patton, please, please, please can Roman stay? Please!" Remus begged. Patton laughed.

"Roman was actually in the middle of telling me his act. Go on, Roman."

"Dagger throwing and stuff with swords." Roman said, his confidence fading with every word.

Patton's forehead furrowed with thought, his eyes flicking from Roman to Remus and back again. Then, his face split into a wide grin. "I think we can find you a slot. You and Remus can be a double act."

"A double act?!" Remus almost yelled. "Patton, I love my brother but I-"

"No 'buts', Remus. You two are a double act. Yep, I can see it now. The Prince and The Duke." Patton said, still grinning. "Remus, why don't you show Roman around. I need to go and sort out some paper work with Logan."

Patton hurried off. Roman laughed slightly. "I don't think I've ever seen someone that excited to sort out paper work."

"That's Patton for you. He gets excited about everything. Also, there is definitely something more than friendship between him and the accountant dude." Roman laughed at the weird face that Remus was making and rolled his eyes. He had missed his brother.

"Anyway, you gonna show me around?"

"Sure!" Remus grabbed Roman by the arm and dragged him into the sea of caravans, pointing to everyone. "That over there is Remy, stage name Somnum."

"Somnum?"

"Yeah. It means 'Sleep' in Latin and his brother called him that because he's always late and sleeping in. That there is Janus, stage name Deceit."

"What's up with his face?" Roman asked. Janus had bright green snake scales all along one side of his face.

"Oh, that's just for his act. Really, he's got a normal face. He's a snake charmer and he likes to paint on snake scales for the shows."

"And I'm guessing from the way you're talking about him that snakes aren't the only thing he's charmed." Remus flushed and quickly pulled Roman on.

"That's the accountant guy. His name's Logan. This is one of the rare times he's out of his caravan."

Remus waved at Logan who waved back at him slightly, pushing his glasses up his nose. "He's nice but very posh. He uses big words."

"So is that everyone?" Roman asked. He was excited to start training now, his nerves having disappeared.

"No. We've got a few more people but I don't know where they are so I'll just tell you. There's Eric and Rose, they're magicians, Jack who's a lion tamer, Silvia who's a contortionist and Eveline and Alex. They're both clowns." Remus said proudly. "There's one more person and I bet I know where he is."
